Guest guest
Janet, I've only been raw for less than a year, but there are a couple of things that bothered me in transition and still bother me now. First are some of the raw recipes. I do much better with fewer ingredients. Some of the recipes have too many varying tastes for me that I don't get a sense of any one food, never quite feel satisfied, and sometimes overeat as a result. Raw food digests quickly, but I still feel awful for quite some time. Second are the liquid aminos. They give me the same reaction that MSG did. Depending on how much I've had, I've experienced everything from a numb mouth to a serious migraine headache. I bought one bottle of this stuff very early in my transition and tossed it out after three bad experiences. I know it helps with flavoring, but there's something funky about it for some people. Hope this helps and don't give up! Mary Ellen
Guest guest
Hi Everyone, My husband just came home about thirty minutes after lunch wondering if I and our 2 year old were ok. He had just vomited on his way home (couldn't make it to the house). We all had the same thing to eat, which was a delicious recipe out of The Raw Gourmet. We had the mushroom soup with blended mushrooms, raw almond butter, water, and some amino acids. The mushrooms were bought fresh yesterday, the raw almond butter was just opened, and the amino acids are new, too. I'm hoping it doesn't have this effect on me! I recently had the same experience, only much worse. I woke up at 3am and got very sick (vomit) after having had a very big salad about nine hours earlier. I threw up again an hour later, then layed in bed all day and night. I thought I had food poisoning of some sort, but my husband and daughter did not have ill effects. The following day I felt fine. I'm wondering if other people have had this experience while transitioning to raw. Is there a way to avoid getting sick this way? Neither my husband, nor I, are accustomed to throwing up and I wonder if there is something we can do. Janet Groups are talking. We & acute;re listening. Check out the handy changes to Groups. Guest guest
Hi Mary Ellen, First, if you feel awful for ANY period of time, then what you ate is not, in fact, digesting quickly, nor at all to a degree. The solution is to recognize your own rising self-awareness, and begin phasing out these recipe things. As for the Liquid Aminos, this does in fact contain MSG, though not added as a separate ingredient. The MSG occurs naturally, as a byproduct of fermentation. Liquid Aminos do not constitute food for any species, and no large mammal digests salt (NaCl, sodium chloride) anyway. It's caustic, damages the blood and everything the blood contacts, and again, is not food. Guest guest
Hi MaryEllen, Thanks for the feedback. We aren't ones to get sick often, so I'm concerned about this. I've been told that Bragg's Amino Acids *do* have MSG in them. Something about the process of making the stuff creates the msg, or so I've been told by two people. I was informed by someone on the rawschool list that the bottle once said it had no msgs in them, but then they had to take that off because there are. Thanks again, Janet chicwriter wrote: Janet, I've only been raw for less than a year, but there are a couple of things that bothered me in transition and still bother me now. Guest guest
Mary Ellen - that's because liquid aminos DO have MSG in them. If anyone has been using them for any length of time you would have noticed a change in the label. About 10 years ago it used to say " no msg " and the FDA made them change it. Now it doesn't even mention MSG. And if you write and ask, they will not tell you how the liquid aminos are made. Shari
Guest guest
My first incindent was when I was still 80 - 90 % raw. Thought I'd have to go to the hospital - diarrhea - felt like vomiting and was very dizzy - thought I might pass out but didn't. Went on for about 24 hours. I stayed on a water fast for a few days and have been 100 % raw since then - about a month ago. I one other incident - think it had more to do with food combining - than anything. Just cleansed my system in a few hours after I ate. Stayed on a water fast until I got hungry and am fine now. No interest in going back. Had other syptoms but nothing as bad as the above - just stupid thinking that I didn't pay attention to. Just told my mind " thank you for sharing " - knew it was junk from past idiots and went about my life of being healthy. I detoxed from drugs and alchohol many years ago so am familiar with symptoms. Guest guest
Wow, thanks so much for telling me this. I shared your post with my husband so we can talk about it later. You're the only one to respond to my post who has experienced similar symptoms, and I was beginning to wonder. Also, I do think that food combining had a lot to do with it. The mushroom soup was VERY rich, too. If there are other people who have experienced extreme symptoms during the transition, please let me know privately if you think it's too graphic. It's not the kind of stuff people like to talk about, but I think it's important to be aware.
