Guest guest
I'm no expert and I don't make money selling products or services on the raw food industry. I really believe this is the healthiest way of life for me. Like any other way of life I think that there are people who do this for health reasons and therefore tweak the regimen to fit their needs and those who do this for the philosophy and therefore follow set guidelines and strictures. (Like a friend of mine who calls herself a vegetarian, but hates vegetables. Is she a vegetarian or is she a non-meat eater? She shuns meat because of a belief in animals rights and therefore follows suggestions PETA makes for dietary protein replacement.) That said, the longer that you are raw or almost raw, the more your body is going to guide you. Some things I was able to give up overnight (diet cola) and others took months before they no longer appealed to me (potato chips). I live in Chicago and therefore have a long, cold winter. Even being raw, I take a Vit C every day (It's like my lucky talisman. Go Linus Pauling!), a Vit D once a week during fall and winter, and a B Complex about once every few weeks. I also drink powdered Green Kamut when I am at a client's office or traveling for any length of time. A raw food guru in Chicago claims she drinks 16-64 oz of Green Kamut per day and has done so for 15 years. Most of the raw food how-to books or personal stories will tell you that it is difficult at first to gauge how much food you will need since fruits and veggies digest quicker than cooked food. The powdered drinks are a good stopgap, especially if you can't run out for a fruit salad or smoothie in between meals. This is supposed to be a healthy lifestyle, not one that triggers high anxiety. I failed in my first few attempts at being raw because I thought I had to " go raw " all at once and had people around me picking at my diet and asking " Isn't that cheating? " every time they saw me with something they didn't think was 100% raw. Nobody needs that. You'd be healthier if you ate cooked foods that made you happy rather than all raw with your stomach clenched in a knot because you're not sure you're getting enough of this that or the other nutrient. Relax and go at your own pace. You'll get there! Mary Ellen
Guest guest
Ok, so many people have told me that I don't need to use the supplements I'm taking. Well, how do I know if I am getting enough variety in my diet to really provide me with all I need? I like to keep my diet more on the simple side, not trying too many new recipes and all, while I get back into it. I definetly use a lot of fruit and veggies, but how do I really know what else I need to add?? I need it to be simple, or else I'll get overwhelmed!! Is there like, a raw food diet pyramid?? LOL! Thanks for your help!! Micele in So CA
Guest guest
Hi Micele, You have lots of questions today! LOL. You don't need supplements! By eating raw fruits and vegetables you will be getting way more nutrition than ever before. Don't worry. Really. Trust nature. Trust your body. Humanity has survived a long, long time without supplememts. You'll do great without them. All they do is create imbalances in the body by subjecting it to unnatural ratios of nutrients. The nutrients in fruits, veggies, and nuts and seeds are perfectly balanced for us and in a form that our bodies can easily assimilate. Guest guest
Thats ok! It's good to be thirsting for the truth about health. I was just kidding. :-) It is a lot of re-learning to do, isn't it? Good for you for being so open minded! I think some people do get very critical of others that don't follow everything they agree with. It sounds like religion! Anyhow, I'm glad to hear that people do agree with tweaking the diet, and not feel that they are bound to it in certain circumstances! This is such a learning game!
