While we are not primarily flesh eaters, if you look at our nearest cousins, you will see that most primates get 5 to 10% of their calories from animal products (mainly in the form of insects and scavenged flesh). However, knowing that I do not needs these things in my diet, I have made the conscious choice of not consuming them. As with most thing in life, there is always a choice... -Mike _____ Hi Mike and all, Mike you make good points here. For accuracy, it is constructive to distinguish between ALL primates and ANTHROPOID primates. We humans fall into the latter subgroup. And these generally eat only a tiny portion of the caloric intake as animal foods. Also, we have no way of knowing whether this practice/habit is ancient or recent, in response to habitat destruction. Older accounts, e.g., from hunters, naturalists, etc., do not mention such habits. So we can best treat such information a bit " softly " . And I agree 100% WRT choice. We have the capacity, as sentient beings, to choose a " higher " path for ourselves, that no creature need die in order that we may live. Best to all, Elchanan
