Guest guest
Hi Mike, you missed the essential question in my post , which is very Specific. Mr. Wolfe Claims in Exact terms , that in todays Agriculturally world, Even Organic Produce is Very deficient in certain Minerals, and he claims that if you eat a 100% Organic Raw Food diet, you are absolutely deficient in Minerals, and you ''need'' Supplements to be Adequately Mineralized. Now i am saying either that is a true statement...or it is not. Figuring it out is a little more difficult, but that indeed is the question . In fact i just recieved today a bulletin from DAVID WOLFEs website www.rawfood.com, which includes a pitch for RAW POWER 'thors raw protien supplement powder' . Please allow me to quote Verbatum , right from the website concerning this 'supplement' and tell me what you think . This is taken right from the website under product = THOR'S RAW POWER PROTEIN BLEND . Speaking is Thor Blazer, formelly Stephen Arlin , founder and co partner with David Wolfe of rawfood.com " Truth be told, my motivation was a pretty little brunette -- my wife. She has been vegan her whole adult life but didn't give much thought to protein for years. Many of us know that the human body doesn't need as much protein as some people people think, but (like me) after being into raw food nutrition for 10+ years, she noticed a definite physical need for more protein than a raw/vegan diet can provide " Ok there ya go.... focus on that Last sentence in his quote. Now my question is very simple and direct , in your opinion is he right , or is this a Whole bunkload of sheer Money Hungry and Marketing Bull Shi* & ! In my opinion The ? is a Legitimate , vital and important one, and i invite everyone to respond. thanks, Dave
Guest guest
David, In this particular case I believe he is in error. What I was merely pointing out is that even if he is in error, he may truly believe in what he is saying. You were trying to say that he is either correct or unscrupulous. The world isn't always so black and white. -Mike dj7510 rawfood Thursday, August 17, 2006 6:20:45 PM Re: [Raw Food] DAVID WOLFE....slick salesman out for a quick $, or a truthfu... Guest guest
I think it's easy to err too far in one direction or the other. No doubt some supplements are helpful at times-- I certainly am better off for using flax oil, for instance, and once every 3-4 mo. I buy a bag of caco nibs, and I love them. There was also a time when I needed B12 really bad for a month or so. I agree with Mike: nothing's black and white, set in stone. But I also wince at the profusion of expensive and practically non-nutritive supplements being offered to raw fooders, especially things like MSM (a pure chemical compound, therefore a drug?) and other non-herbal, non-food supplements. We do live in an imperfect world; certainly our soil is not what it used to be. And when people are starting out on this path and haven't detoxified and are therefore unable to assimilate nutrients well, it's possible that certain supplements like minerals may help for a time. Ultimately we have to turn within and find our own way. I personally have an extra incentive not to get into supplements: I've been watching the unfolding of the Codex Alimentarius disaster that is soon to reach our shores. Unless strong measures are taken by more concerned Americans, I think it's doubtful that we will have access to these supplements and minerals, and maybe even herbs (unless we grow our own), in the near future. Many supplements will even be declared illegal. So I am already trying to learn to live without modern supplements and keep myself healthy and in balance with raw foods only, and a few common 'cooking' (ginger, garlic) and flax oil, wild greens, and most of all, periodic fasting. I really like all of the raw food teachers, because I think each of them has at least something valuable to say, and their widely diverging and conflicting messages inadvertently poke fun at each one's assumed status of 'guru' and remind us that there is still a lot to learn about an optimal raw food diet.
