But now I don't know what to believe! For all I know, Mikkelson could be associated with the Canadian government, our FDA, or the Canola oil industry. They can lie about the details on how Canola really came to be and get away with it. So I did a hand towl test - I put a teaspoon of Canola oil on one end and rubbed in a teaspoon of coconut oil on the other. I put it through the wash on hot with salt, and with vinegar for the rinse. The coconut oil came out perfectly, but there was a slight stain from the Canola - and the texture of the stain was a bit rough. Most people are familiar with food oil stains on their clothes, right? So I would still do not trust Canola, and like Dave mentioned, it would be nice to see the natural salad dressing manufacturers stop using it. They should go back to the good old days when coconut oil or even olive oil were used instead! -Tiffany Lohr _______________ Greetings Tiffany and all, There is a larger point, perhaps overlooked in this conversation. Our bodies are designed to ingest and assimilate whole foods, specifically plant-based whole foods that contain fiber. No oil is EVER a constructive food to the human body, regardless of the seed from which it is extracted. It is correct to say that olive oil is superior in nutrient content to rapeseed oil; of this there is no question, though I have not seen anyone pursue that perspective in this particular discussion. But the point is moot ... neither of these substances constitutes a whole, viable (life-supporting) food for us -- nor for ANY mammalian species on Earth. Nature provides no refined oils as foods. " I realized that I should have made this point AFTER I hit the send button, sorry! However, I feel that us talking about Canola being in so-called 'healthfood' products like Annie's is in relation to those who are transitioning. I switched from organic extra virgin olive to raw organic extra virgin coconut and flax oils while in transition. If those who we love are not on the raw food path, I would prefer they at least have in-your-face access to healthier alternatives to bad oils in food products. -Tiffany Lohr Elchanan <VLinfo wrote: rawfood [ rawfood ] On Behalf Of Tiffany Friday, August 18, 2006 11:10 AM Re: [Raw Food] GRASSROOTS MOVEMENT (Canola links) - I did a test Thanks for the link to some additional research, Amanda.
