Guest guest
" Conventionally grown food is so lacking minerals that much of it is actually acidic. " Ever look into brix measurement? Brix is the measure of % sugar in a given sample. The instrument which is used to measure brix is called a refractometer. Sometimes coventional food rates higher on the brix scale and would be superior to organic. I am finding this to be true with watermelons and cantelope this year. While I do not personally brix, I know of a couple of folks who are religious about it and report back to a local raw group I am on. Here's a site for brix testing techniques http://foodqa.byu.edu/testing_techniques/manual/brix.html And here's a site where you can talk about brixing, if you are interested. http://www.crossroads.ws/brix/index-page2.html Shari - the trouble maker
Guest guest
Shari, these links are useful, and knowledge about Brix testing may be interesting and valuable to some. At the same time, let us all remember that sugar is not the only nutrient. :) And I am aware of no pesticides that are considered nutrients. Guest guest
Pesticides are nutrients! That's a good one. Didn't think my response was coming that way, but I guess you're right. I just respect my friend Norm, aka Kelpguy. He is a habitual brixer and has moved to the jungles of Panama and is thriving on very high, non-organic brix fruits. I'm still on the learning curve with brixing and I can't envision myself standing in the produce section testing a piece of pear!!! My other brixing friend in Seattle does just that. Shari __________ LOL! It's my impression, thought I'm not certain, that in Panama, and in most of the world, few farmers can afford all the chemicals our farmers take for granted. So the food may indeed by much cleaner down there! I, too, have encountered those who Brix-on-demand. I have learned to look, smell, touch, and taste -- following the design of our species since its dawn upon the Earth, and I find these methods work quite well for me. And I am able to teach them to others without any need for hardware. :) Elchanan
