[Raw Food] RE: Cleanse

Okay Elchanan for me on a raw diet you are saying cut out all spices and such

for how long.

Rmemeber I am in a house of 6 others on SAD some of my childern are leaning my

way , but still

in a change, and honestly I would rather in this transition use the spices than

to go back to

SAD through tempting samples here and there.

As far as the rest of the family are the cleanses recommended safe for kids?

Mine range from

5-20 in age.

Thank You all dso very much for all your help!

Sharie

Hi Sharie,

So sorry for my delay in responding, this message went into my Drafts folder

during a restart,

and I just found it again.

First, regarding the spices. My suggestion is that you go forward at your own

speed. Try an

experiment. Ideally, cut them all out for 60-90 days. But if that feels just

undoable for now,

then cut them all out for 2 weeks, or even one week if that's all you're up for

at the moment.

The next part is key: reintroduce them one at a time. That's the only way you'll

be able to

distinguish which spice has what effect upon you. Then go back to no spices for

a couple of

days, then reintroduce another. Keep cycling like this until you've covered the

spices most

important to you.

Now, what are you looking for when you reintroduce each spice? Honestly, you may

or many not be

able to pick up some things after only a week's cessation, but worth a try.

First, BEFORE you

eat the spice, notice how the inside of your mouth and teeth feel -- moisture,

smoothness, etc.

And if you can, try and get a sense of the size of things -- your tongue, the

lining of your

mouth. Then eat the spice. Now notice your tongue -- taste sensitivity to other

foods, does it

feel just a bit " swollen " ; same for the mouth lining. Is there a " burning "

sensation a bit on

the tongue, perhaps one that lingers after you've swallowed the food? Do you

notice any mucus --

increased salivation after the food has been swallowed, a slight increase in

mucus in the

throat, perhaps in the nasal area? Do you notice a sense of warmth at all?

Perhaps a slight bit

of perspiration -- very slight -- upon your forehead? Does anything itch? Notice

your ears, your

hearing? Does the ear canal feel wide open, as before you ate the spice? Do you

hear absolutely

as well?

Later, notice the smoothness of your digestion. Any rumbling in the belly? Odor

in the urine

and/or stool that might otherwise not be present? Any smell coming out through

the wrist (often

this one is difficult to detect, except with garlic and perhaps onion)?

Just some ideas, this list is not exhaustive at all.

As for the cleanses...as I've already said, I don't recommend them for anyone at

any age. See my

upcoming post entitled " Short-Term Watermelon Monodiet " (or something similar)

to be released

today or perhaps tomorrow.

Are they " safe " ? Well, I've never heard of anyone going 6 feet under just by

using a cleanse, if

that's what you mean. But cleanses do burden the system, and it's more

productive to simplify

the diet. For the SAD members of the household, just introducing a bit of food

combining can go

a long, long way. I've written a bit on that recently, but only from a RF

perspective. I'm

thinking of choosing Food Combining for our teleconference topic September 6 or

20; watch for

our announcements. In the meanwhile, simply placing high water-content foods

ahead of drier

foods, separating animal foods from plant foods (in general) with the plant

foods first, will

help a great deal! For example, instead of meat with potatoes, perhaps there is

some way to

serve potatoes, then wait awhile, then serve meat. Same for pasta. Even a step

as simple as this

for a SAD eater can have a surprisingly beneficial impact upon digestive

function.

Hope this helps at least a tiny bit!

Elchanan
