People here do great just trying to be vegetarians. Health restaurants open, but soon close from lack of interest. I have noticed that more restaurants are including some vegetarian choices, but not raw, except for their salads. We do have two Wild Oats and a Whole Foods Store here and even our local grocery stores carry a nice selection of organic foods. McFosters Restaurant is about the only one that I know of that has stayed in business. I've ask them to put some raw vegan selections in their menu, but last time I was there all they had was salads and some veggies with dip. They do serve carrot and wheatgrass juice. Wish I could be more positive but I've just not found too many like-minded people in these parts. A couple of years ago, I put up some notices in some of the smaller HFS (which have gone out of business since Wild Oats) for anyone that would like to get together a group interested in raw veganism. I got NO response! So other than a few groups on the internet, I'm basically just a " hermit " . Sharon ________________ Just a personal experience...a number of years ago, I was involved in some investments managed by a group out of Peoria, Illinois. Faced with considerable success, a group from among the investors decided to fly to Peoria and take these fine folks out for dinner. So there I was, at dinner in a steak house in Peoria. I scanned the menu and found some salads and a side of " steamed vegetables " . So I asked the server whether various items could be omitted form or added to the salad, and after inquiring in the kitchen, she said yes. And I also asked whether the steamed vegetables were parboiled in advance, or steamed to order. Answer: steamed to order. So I ordered one large chicken-something salad, hold the chicken, hold the tortilla strips, hold the cheese, extra extra tomato (or something like that). And I ordered a side of the steamed vegetables, unsteamed, and served atop the salad. When dinner was served, I received a huge plate piled high with mounds of wonderful veggies. Everyone else at the table received a plate of the same size. And on each of there plates was a small piece of meat, a potato or veggie, and the obligatory parsley sprig. In other words, a LOT of plate was showing. They all looked, I said nothing at all, and we continued our conversation about how wonderful life can be. Just one person's experience. Best to all, Elchanan
