Guest guest
One thing that I enjoy most about this list is people sharing what latest studies and theories that they have heard or read, and their experiences of what is working for THEIR bodies and THEIR lives. There is a lot of great theoretical information and a lot of great anecdotal data. But this is a forum dedicated to RAW FOOD and experiences. If I wanted to get in-depth discussions of supplements, I would join a supplements mailing list. I appreciate that people sometimes find the need to supplement their raw food diet in one way or another. I think that this is part of learning experience. But the ideal that we are striving to find on this list is to fulfill all of our bodies needs through whole natural raw sources. If someone feels the need to add MSM or glucosamine to their diet, I would much rather hear an in-depth discussion of finding raw resources to do so than of the best supplier for pills. We had a " raw food " guru guest lecture at the institute a little while back. (Its someone who has been discussed on this list.) We told him that he could not be selling supplements during his stay, as this was against the founding principle of the institute. He gave some great lectures on raw issues, but the final section of each lecture was about his raw supplements and his assistant would spread out a table with jars and bottles at the end of the lecture for people to buy. I did not appreciate that we were pushed into a position of having to be tough with someone who was there as our guest for violating ground-rules that we laid out from the beginning, because of personal greed. It is not a fun job. So too on mailing lists, when someone has the unenviable task of being moderator, they have to keep the discussion focused on and limited to the principles of the list. That is what keeps the tenor and quality of the list. Moderating for tone and quality of " discourse " is up the individual list. A healthy discussion of both the science of accepted " truths " and the personal experience for each individual is important to attaining a deeper understanding. When someone belligerently fights for some dogma without citing either personal experience or scientific study, it is more about their own ego than it is for helping others. I had a wonderful student from Portugal who shared an important life lesson: " Every human being on the planet knows at least one thing that I don't know. It is my job to find out what that is. " Ideally I would hope that each person could, " address each post as if you were talking to the person that you care most about in this world. " Attacks on a personal level affect the well-being of everyone on the list. If a moderator feels that it is necessary to ban someone for verbal violence, I welcome their efforts and I applaud them for taking on that unpleasant task. Thank you to everyone who has made this such a great and useful discussion forum for raw food issues. You have been a help to me and to my students. We are all in process. The process only stops when you are dead. Guest guest
Since the purpose of the list is to be " dedicated to RAW FOOD and experiences " , I would hope that we not only get info about what is working but also about what is not working (otherwise it starts being a little like propaganda, doesn't it?). I want to hear about the wonderful new health by those who are on raw food but I also want to hear about what expectations have not been met as well. In those cases, supplements can sometimes help until raw food benefits " kick in " . I agree that the bulk of the info should NOT be on supplements. There are other forums for this purpose but now and then, a few success stories especially on getting thru detox and especially if supplements have helped (or even if eating cooked food temporarily has helped) seems like that info would be pertinent to the " raw food experience " and subject of this list. rawfood , Tom Spontelli <outreach wrote: > > One thing that I enjoy most about this list is people sharing what latest > studies and theories that they have heard or read, and their experiences of > what is working for THEIR bodies and THEIR lives.
