Guest guest
Hi to parents! I'm new here and new to raw foods too, but loving going vegan! I'm adding lots of new raw foods - fruit, sprouts - to my son's diet too. He's 14 and small for his age - has digestive issues. He's been a big steamed veggie eater and loves organic chicken. Hasn't had refined sugar in 6 years, so he's game to try new things, but says he's not ready to quit chicken. Maybe he senses my fear of letting it go too. Any of you with kids find that they grow well and get enough calories without animal products? What fills them up? And how do I get Eric to slow down at meal time, chew well, and savor food instead of 'inhaling' it? Thanks for any advice. Karen B.
Guest guest
Hi Karen -- Wanted to respond even though I'm not a parent because your comment about " inhaling " food rang a bell with me. I have done this all my life, ate way too fast and had an insatiable appetite and even though I ate a lot of healthy food, I ate way too much because I ate too fast, etc. Something I learned recently with this raw food diet is that fruit seems to be something that I can really feel satiation with. I now eat fruit at the end of a meal and it seems to help a great deal in turning off my " appetite mechanism " which I think is the appestat (or something like that). Some may say this violates some of the food combining rules but I feel I need to do what works for me first. As much as I think " getting off chicken " would be a good thing, I think it is more important for you to try to let your son make his own decisions (within reason) about what he eats. Otherwise, he might be turned off for life. I have always heard that the best thing a parent can do is model the right behaviour for their child. So if it isn't causing you to go to an early grave, I would recommend that you continue eating raw and let him be part raw if that is what he really wants. I hope some parents with similar problems WILL respond with more experience. Good luck. rawfood , " karen_rpb " <karenbaldauf wrote: > > Hi to parents!
