Guest guest
Thank you, to all who were helpful with suggestions for my day cruise around Chicago, I want to say a big thank you! It was fabulous! I brought my small lunch bag with carrots, dates, a few raw nuts, banana, and a bottle of green smoothie. I thought this was enough for all day, just in case I couldn't get any raw food. Had oranges before I left. On the bus there I ate the banana in 1 1/2 hour bus trip. Left house at 7:30 a.m. Got on the Cruise ship Odyssey at 11. They served lunch about noon. As some suggested I told the waiter I was on a special diet. Having seen Caesar salad on the menu I told him " just bring me romaine lettuce, no croutons, nothing else, and if you have some raw vegetables to add to it that would be fine. That is all I'm eating. " He said, " Not to worry, we'll figure something out. Do you eat fruit? " I said, " Yes, but only fresh, not canned or frozen. " He said, " Ok we'll find something. " He came back with our salads, there were 10 people at my table, and told me. " I'll bring the vegetables as your main course. " Trusting him by that time, I said, " Ok, thanks. " I ate my lettuce with a bit of lemon. Shared in conversation. Talked to a retired Chicago fireman next to me and he explained about Navy Pier and how it had been remodeled in the 90's for $200 million but was worth it to the city. They had kept the main ballroom at the end of the pier which was built in the 30's. Then came the main course. I was give a plate nice arranged of broccoli, red peppers, cucumbers, avocado, sliced carrots. It was arranged beautifully and with lemon. Others had the usual SAD stuff - very fancy of course. They were pleased - I was more than happy. During the retired fireman shared that his daughter died of diabetes in her 40's and that his wife had been 400 pounds. Lost some weight at a " fat farm " about 100 pounds and decided to have her knees replaced - did one but got some blood disease and stayed in a nursing home for 10 months before she died. Another kind of sad. Dessert came - in a wine glass was arranged sliced fresh strawberries and blueberries. The rest had their usual fancy whip cream, sugar, cream cheese etc.. I was again very happy. A few asked what I had and that I liked fruit. I said yes I sure did. (lol Since that is mostly what I eat - yes. I didn't say that to them.) A lady in the middle of the table asked, " I'm curious, why are you eating like this, and the fireman wanted to know if I was on some special food plan or some book. " I replied to both and most other people at the table were listening so I tried to be careful. I said that, " I was having some health issues and didn't want to continue taking more and more medicine and that I had been studying Natural Health for years but decided to apply what I had learned in books and online to myself. I am not off my thyroid medication and all asthma medication. I just take blood pressure medicine. " The fireman said he was on no medication until a few years ago. A few other shared their medical problems. After the cruise I had enough time to walk to the end of the pier about 1 mile there and back to see the ballroom the fireman talked about. It was wonderful. Out next event was Cirque Saigon. I saw that -- wonderful acrobats. Then at 4 p.m. it was finished and I had my green smoothie with a few nuts (sometimes I feel like a nut, sometimes I don't ... mostly I don't lately ... that's good). All things considered it was a terrific day and the meal was better than I planned. Oh and I tipped the waiter well as a few of you suggested. They told me it was included when I started to get my purse out, I told them I know but wanted to because he gave me extra good service. I later saw him and tipped him personally. It was well worth it. If your in Chicago - visit Navy Pier, go on Odessy Cruise and right across the Cirque, and be sure to see the ballroom. The view of the city was great. There was a storm coming down. Stopped raining all day - then started on the way home. It felt like Moses parting the sea just for us.
