Guest guest
Has anyone every dehydrated mangoes? I'm fine now with dehydrating prepared food but everytime I try fruit it just doesn't seem to work. My manual is very vague and not helpful. I have a crate of mangoes I purchased at a good cost and I'm trying to save the ones I can't eat. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks. Guest guest
Down here in mango heaven, we remove the skin and seed and slice into very thin slices. The thinner you slice the more they just melt on your tongue. *********************************************************** Tom Spontelli Instructor Ann Wigmore Natural Health Institute Aguada PR 00602 USA www.AnnWigmore.org Two week Living Foods Lifestyle Certification Program on tropical beach at one of the world's most respected Lifing Foods Institutes. *********************************************************** rawfood [rawfood ] On Behalf Of Hank@MT Monday, August 28, 2006 3:26 PM rawfood [Raw Food] dehydrating Mangoes Has anyone every dehydrated mangoes? Guest guest
Hi, Tammy, I have jumped into dehydrating mangos for the first time. I peeled and sliced them about 1/4 " thick and laid them out on the trays. I didn't treat them with anything. The ones you buy in the store are usually treated to keep them from turning dark and sweetened. My dehydrator operates at about 108 degrees. I checked on mine this morning and they looked like they are progressing nicely. I froze some of mine, too. I peeled the mangos and cut in chunks. I've dehydrated papaya, too. It's good dipped into agave nectar. Tommie http://reallyrawfood.com rawfood , Hank <hank wrote: > > Has anyone every dehydrated mangoes? Guest guest
Thanks Tommie, I didn't think to freeze them. What a great idea. Then I would have them for my smoothies. I'm still going to try and dehydrate some too. We are on the go alot and I want snacks to bring along. Guest guest
Could you freeze them instead for ice cream and smoothies? Haven't ever had much success dehydrating fruit! Guest guest
Good morning, Tammy! I tried the dehydrated mango yesterday and it is yummy! The fruit I used wasn't too flavorful to begin with but it's all been concentrated. I'm sure I'll have to make myself not eat it too often since it is so rich but it will be nice for a treat now and then. I'm going to take some to work today to share with the others. Guest guest
Thanks, Tommie. I can't wait to try mine! What was the final texture like? Totally dry or still a bit moist inside. I guess I'm still not sure what I am shooting for. Tammy On Aug 30, 2006, at 7:21 AM, Tommie wrote: > Good morning, Tammy! I tried the dehydrated mango yesterday and it is > yummy! Guest guest
Dang! Mangos are already gone around here. Next year. Anybody ever dry persimmons? I always ask the produce girls to keep the ones they are going to throw away for me. They are the best! You can freeze just about any fruit and then run it through a Champion juicer for easy, quick ice cream (I usually freeze at least half of the bananas I buy, pineapple, strawberries, blueberries... ) Margaret
