I am new here and as a raw foodist. I joined this list to learn. I rweally like

it her but it does

not really seem like a group for new raw foodists (in general) While I find it

wonderful that through this group i found out what 811 means/ is / etc

i am not ready to do that now. I have read that some people go raw 100%

immediately and others transition. I am not here to lose weight . i am here to

learn and share. it seems when anyone mentions dehydrating or grains here they

get " witnessed " for lack of a better comparison .

I have heard that grains and nuts are not optimal. i am not ready to cut

those out. it seems like those most active in this group are 811. is this group

only for those ?

is there a group for the more " gourmet " ish type of raw foodists ?

i admit , the recipes in RAW by juliano NEVER turn out like anything I would

eat , let alone serve anyone:)

but I am bored with just fruit and veggies.

thanks for letting me share

I don't know the answer to the jicama question, but I can't figure out

why people are so worried about what David Wolfe or other raw foodists THINK

about a certain fruit / veggie or other natural food.

Eat it, evaluate how your body responds to it, and decide how YOU feel after

eating it.

Kindest Regards,

Leah

Hey Everyone,

I was thinking about adding Jicama to my diet and I wanted to know

what David Wolfe, Gabe Cousins, and the other Raw food pros may have

thought of this veggie. I'm asking because I know that potatos are

stongly not recomended but Jicama is different somehow, really I just

wanted to be certain of it was suitable for consumption.

thanks

I totally agree. I have no health issues, I don't need

to lose weight, and this means I have a very different

approach to most raw foodists.

I view raw food as the diet most suited to our bodies,

and am enjoying exploring it for that reason. I do

feel better the more fruit and veg I consume, but I

would question whether 811 are the ideal percentages

for everyone - we all evolved (or were created) to

have such different constitutions which suit the

environments our ancestors lived in. Look at tribal

peoples across the world, some eat no carbs at all,

others eat little else.

It does bother me that people sometimes believe that

what works for them is necessarily best for others.

We all need to try different things and see what suits

us best. I'm very grateful for people who have opened

my mind to different options, such as 811, but am not

sure that this style of diet is for me. I hope

everyone can continue to mention what works for them -

and especially if they don't expect me to do the same!

I think sometimes people find moving to a certain

diet, such as 811, makes them feel so wonderful, they

wished they'd tried it before, and feel that they're

helping people when they do all they can to convert

them. And I can only applaude their consideration for

others, but respectfully remind them that we all need

to do things our own way and in our own time.

We're already a 'fringe' group, so a bit of unity

despite our differences would seem a good idea - and

really we have so much more to unite rather than

divide us!

PS Although I hardly ever make them (too

time-consuming and too many ingredients!), I do like

some of Juliano's recipes, especially when making food

for my (very un-raw) husband. The marinara sauce, the

ketchup, the un-mayo, things like that. Not ideal

foods, but if my husband will eat Juliano's raw

ketchup instead of the chemically-laced store-bought

stuff, that's good enough for me!

Well said, Elaine! My thoughts exactly! It is unfortunate,

in my opinion, that the largest raw food egroup on the net

is skewed in any one direction. This is the one that newbies

come to first. They should be encouraged to explore what

works best FOR THEM. After nearly two years as a raw

foodist, I am still adjusting my diet to fit my current

needs. I (and others) don't need to be proselytized to--I

just need ideas and suggestions. Thank you for sharing!

Blessings,

Jennifer
