Guest guest
Community is very important. I reluctantly took a short vacation (5 days) to go to the Vibrant Living Expo in Fort Bragg this year. It was life changing. I knew many of the speakers from past festivals in Portland and Upstate NY so it was great to see them again and reconnect. Many new speakers attended and they had wonderful new insights to share. Conflicting advice? YOU BET! but in different contexts. Reminded me of the words " What comes our of our mouths is more important to our health then what goes in our mouths. " Staying positive, non judgmental in actions, words and deeds is a challenge for me. Spirituality was a Kundalini yoga with Siri Singh was available each morning (regrettably indoors) but helpful and amazing non the less or a play outdoors with Doug Graham each morning and afternoon. A walk at the beach with Tim Trader each afternoon was also available. The fresh air was fabulous! Three talks each hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and lots of long time health enthusiasts in attendance from all over the USA. I am so glad I over came resistance and attended. I car pooled with a friend who has always body brushed and sleep with a window open (two new more energizing activities). There was a live food/live music dance -- banana ice cream social, and a concert with vegan, live food and sacred lyrics. It was so nice to see a high quality busy live foods deli and store and to meet many energizing vendors and educators. This was the first festival of six that I did not have to teach anything (food prep or yoga or dance). Nice! One day home and then off to Raw Spirit Retreat at Camp Adams in Molalla, OR. Some of the same attendees came to both so that was a pleasant continuity. This was also a spiritual oriented event where all the food was included and attendees could volunteer to do food prep (officially for a discount or unofficially for camaraderie and knowledge). The produce was vibrant, way beyond organic as I have an urban farm and my produce is better then store bought but pale compared to what Raw Spirit retreat provided. Gabriel and Thomas have some amazing farm contacts. Lots of new greens to micro eat (amaranth, comfrey), green smoothies in the morning (spinach, chard, kale, lettuces, sunflower sprouts). Very ripe fruit that was delicious Mixture of raw newbies/ " drag along's " to dedicated and knowledgeable rock solid enthusiasts. I had lots of transformational/growing pains at this event. I slept under the stars near my assigned cabin in my sleeping bag, taught yoga outdoors each morning with a walk/run before to warm-up. Cabins and talk venues were in an old growth forest that inspired me to find my voice each time I took a solitary walk and inspired gentleness and friendship on group walks. If we organize it again I would lead the yoga in the woods at the open air chapel! Using the wood benches as mats. Some of the participants from Long Island want to organize an event there in the future if you are interested in attending or speaking contact Richard Hemsley, Executive chef at massapeal, synergychef. or work phone 916 641 0550. Richard is in Sacramento and he has the organizers contact information (Linda, Peggy and an other Richard.) I also taught a two hour dance lesson in East Coast Swing and the steps for East Coast Swing in the line dance the Wild Horse Romp (AKA Wild Wild West) the professional DJ played conventional tunes to 11 p.m. and people boogied through the night. I met a long time tap dancer from Toronto Canada and am setting an intention to add tap dance to the list of future classes (perhaps also tapping on the log benches in the outdoor chapel?). The highlight of the uplifting event was the closing ceremony our second " angel wash. " Divine and heavenly! For future attendees Camp Adams is about a half hour drive from the serene and beautiful world famous Breitenbush Hot springs. Excellent workshop buildings, yoga studio, lodge, library, labyrinth walk, hikes as well as the no clothing required sauna and soaking pools. By the way the pools are either silent or speech optional. Breitenbush Hot springs is also in an old growth forest near Detroit, OR. The produce is excellent at this resort but no fancy raw foods just fruit salad at breakfast and veggie salad at lunch and dinner so first visit People's coop in Portland or Blossoming Lotus restaurant for your " gourmet " food, Raweo's and cracker needs or bring some of your own. My question is I had a " Live blood cell " analysis done at the Vibrant Living Expo and found it fascinating, I would like to purchase a microscope and check my blood periodically etc. I was told I had a slight B-12 deficiency and I believe it now that I have seen how healthy produce and soil can be and how much further my soil has to go after 16 years of composting and 6 years of permaculture techniques for improving my soil's micro flora of bacteria and fungi (bacteria are the only reliable 'source' of B-12 on the planet) Has anyone any experience with " live blood cell analysis " to share? Gabriel Cousens has done a lot of research on B12 deficiency and has written that a lot of vegan raw foodists really need to supplement with B12, which may be why so many are pale and lacking in energy. That's another subject though.
