Re: [Raw Food] Raw Garlic , Good or Bad?

I haven't given these things (garlic, onions, spices, peppers) up as much as I

just can't

tolerate them any more. I never ate a particularly spicy diet before I went raw,

but now the

taste of any of these things is obnoxious. Onions, garlic, and peppers

especially are almost

toxic to me as they make my nose run, my eyes itch, and burn the inside of my

mouth.

OK, I may be some dietary freak even among raw fooders, but I personally don't

see the point of

putting anything into my body that doesn't smell and taste wonderful and make me

feel good.

That said, if you are fighting to eliminate something during your transition to

a raw diet, it

might be best to keep it in the diet, slowly reducing the quantities used until

you don't want

it any longer.

Greetings Mary Ellen and all,

I so agree with everything you say here! In my experience, letting things go

easily, when ready,

was much more effective than " giving them up " ; the latter always felt like using

force against

myself. And you are no freak, you are in wonderful company -- you trust your

sense!!

For transitioning, different approaches work for different people. A LOT depends

upon one

emotional relationship with food in general, and often with specific foods, or

textures, or the

like. In some cases, reducing quantities gradually works well, in other cases

this approach

backfires. And it depends what foods are involved.

Another approach is to eliminate one or two items, e.g., garlic and onions, for

a period of time

only. That way, you KNOW you can eat them again, you're just " on a break " (for

all you Friends

lovers :):) Then after awhile (90 days is ideal for most people), try the item,

by itself, as

your first food of the day. Notice your body's response -- in the mouth, nose,

throat, ears,

temperature/perspiration, all over. You'll know!
