Almond Skins

At the institute, we soak almonds overnight and then pop the skins off

before making nut pates and seed milks.

I know that there has been a lot made of the inhibitors in almond skins, but

there has been some new research indicating that the skin of the almond seed

actually intensifies the power of the vitamin E in the almond.

" The flavonoids found in almond skins team up with the vitamin E found in

their meat to more than double the antioxidant punch either delivers when

administered separately, shows a study published in the June 2005 issue of

the Journal of Nutrition. "

Any thoughts?

Tom:

My thoughts after 5 years of alternative raw/living foods experimentation is:

It is better to avoid behaviors and foods that cause free radical damage then

to ingest antioxidants. I.e. when I consumed more toxic foods I enjoyed

eating the skins on fruit etc. (antioxidant containing) now that I am more

careful

what I consume I prefer to peel my fruits and vegetables. I also am more

comfortable now being light and empty feeling compared to before prefering to be

full and heavy.

My two cents.
