Guest guest
Hi Karen, I'm on the Master Cleanse now. I've been taking Senna Leaf Tea (Alvita) alternating with Traditional Medicinals Chocolate Smooth Move Tea. Both work well. I'm doing the cleanse before switching to a high raw diet. Guest guest
I had someone tell me that some of the herbs in the teas might be too strong and might make me feel really sick. So that is why I was just wondering if the fasting tea would be a good choice? I have never fasted before but I am doing everything at a slow steps now I am thinking about doing a fruit smoothie diet and with teas and then moving on to raw? Is this a good place to start? Guest guest
Hi Karen, A lot of the laxative teas have senna in them. Senna is a rather strong herb, and some people may be affected more than others. Some people have cramping from senna. I guess the only way to find out how it would affect you for sure is to try it for yourself, if you choose to. If you're pregnant or nursing, you should not use the tea. I'm using the tea as part of the Master Cleanse. In that program you can only have the tea, a lemonade concoction, water and peppermint tea. It's rather strict and drastic. I have been having cleansing symptoms like headaches, nausea, etc. Not fun, but I really want to clean out my system. Once I'm over this cleanse, then it's on to a much better diet than I had been on before the cleanse. If you want to go slow, maybe you should skip the strong teas and just stick to your smoothies and then go on to raw foods? That will clean you out too. I'm sure people on this board can be of a great help to you. Cathy
Guest guest
I was told by a natural doc. To drink this weight loss tea by the yogi brand and all it would do is help to cleanse my system out and make me feel much better and it would be a mild laxtive. I know I must have a lot of toxins cause I was on meds for depression for years and now I am off them and having migraines and I am feel yucky. Now I was told that teas with all these herbs are not good for you cause it is not measured or something. I have PCOS and I did read that dandelion tea is a good cleanser for PCOS and hormones and the tea I want to try does have that in it. I tried whey protein yesterday and even though it says it won't hurt you I felt off balnce all day after drinking it and today I feel better. What I am trying to understand is what the following herbs can do to you? red clover garcinia fruit fennel seed cinnamon bark black pepper alfalfa leaf indian bacopa leaf hawthorn berry burdock root daneloin root yellow dock root Does anyone know how safe these are and what they really do cause I am just unsure. My regular docs want to push pills for nerves and say these herbs are not good for me and a natural path tells me they are safe and I will feel better after the toxins are flushed out with the tea. Do you think it would hurt to try it ? What I meant by really sick is like I would get dizzy and could not think or walk across the floor because things did not feel right like I would be too relaxed or have too much energy? So laxtives are okay to take in herbal form? I am new to this and after being on pills for years and fighting to get off them I am just afraid to take anything cause of what I went through getting off the pills. So any info would be great from others who has used these herbs and knows the basic effects.. Thanks, Karen

I'm coming in on this late, but, if you are talking about Master Cleanse, or even if you are just talking about teas that \ will " move " you... I would not listen to that " someone " ... what does that person mean by " make you feel really sick " ??? The teas *will* move you... whether you think you want to or not. What? You will get an urge. It will be a good HEALTHY URGE. You will not want to ignore it. Is that what they mean by " make you feel really sick " ? If someone told me that a tea would make me feel " really sick " , I would be thinking that I would get nauseous. I usually use " Smooth Move " (I forget the brand), but I have also used Celestial Seasonings " Laxatea " -- both are very similar, but I tend to use Smooth Move because, for some reason, stores here in NYC do not always stock Celestial Seasonings " therapeutic " teas. If you are talking about the Master Cleanse, if you are willing to do the quart of salt water in the morning, you can skip the laxative tea. You just need to allow yourself an hour (predictable) after you drink the salt water. If you are doing a laxative tea instead, you are at the mercy of your own system's reaction to the healing herbs of the tea (it could happen 6 hours after you drink it, or eight hours, or more than once, or only once....) I like the salt water, as a result. I KNOW what is going to happen. If it happened today, it will happen tomorrow. You can plan your " move " If you have trouble with the salt water, try making it with HOT water, it will come across as " bouillon " , and it will go down fairly easy and fairly quickly. If you are really interested in doing Master Cleanse, the list files have the Master Cleanse procedure. go to /groups/rawfoods/files Margaret

Guest guest
Hi Karen, Sounds like your body is communicating with you and your instincts are telling you something. I know it can be confusing and frustrating to have different types of doctors and experts telling you varying things about what to do. The thing is, the body can cleanse itself in its own way, in its own time, without any of those interventions (pharmaceutical drugs or herbs). By having enough of a break (depending on your situation and the results you want) from whatever is causing a problem (stress, bad food, etc.), our bodies can start to heal. If this idea interests you, you might check out these 2 : http://health.PathOfHealth/ http://health.Rawschool/ Best wishes, Laurie rawfood , Karen62879 wrote: > > I was told by a natural doc. Fennel is a digestive aid, and it's soothing to the body. Have you ever eaten at an Indian restaurant or been in an Indian store? Those little seeds that are served at the end of the meal are fennel seeds to aid in digestion of the meal. Cinnamon is getting a reputation for being able to help regulate your blood sugar, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was also included as a flavoring. Burdock and yellow dock are traditional cleansers as well and can usually be found in a variety of cleansing and curing formulae. Dandelion is to support detoxification of your liver. Click on this link: http://www.mskcc.org/mskcc/html/69154.cfm THEN, for a complete list, : http://www.mskcc.org/mskcc/html/58481.cfm#B I'm sure there are other sites out there that are similar. If you are buying product at a health food store, they should have plenty of resources available for you to look up what effect each herb/formula is purported to have. I would recommend energy testing to see if your body will take to the formula, and actually you can utilize energy testing for anything, even the meds your dr. wants you to take. I would also recommend acupuncture & TCM herbs to help you through this difficult period with detox. For about 5 years now (I've only been raw since Jan, 06), I haven't taken so much as a tylenol. There are TCM herbs available for everything, and when I would get colds (remember, before raw), I would simply take the TCM herbs for decongestion or whatever symptom was manifesting and they worked better than any " Nytol " or " Sudafed " out there. OK, well enough of my soap box. Hope this helped! Melanie
