Guest guest
I just watched David Wolfe's Video online and he mentions spicy smoothies using cayenne. He makes them really hot so you can only sip them. I am interested in this because my mother with diabetes has just started the Raw food diet. She says her blood sugar level has really risen since eating raw and she and I are concerned. David said in his video to take it easy on honey, dates, and sweetener if you have blood sugar problems and mentioned some cleanse. Does anyone know if I can get the recipes for his hot smoothie, cleanse for blood sugar issues in his book " Naked Chocolate " ? If not, then which book would he talk about it? Thanks, Beth

I bought it and tried many of the recipes. Many of the ones I tried are much better without the chocolate the recipes call for, and the others I tried are worthless in any way, shape, or form. The main points of the book are how David & Shazzie found out how good chocolate is for the body, how other peoples & cultures have revered chocolate thousands of years ago (but their " historical " intro is not very educational though it tries relentlessly to be), there are lots of weird pictures of he & Shazzie " high " on chocolate, and lots of strange recipes because they believe chocolate being the health food that it is that you should include it in everything, no matter what. You can eat raw w/out eating all the sugar from fruit, dried fruit, etc. Keep it centered on greens, nuts & seeds and low-glycemic fruit if necessary such as pears & apples, maybe a few berries. For example, for breakfast I ate chopped up apples and/or pears with almond milk (I never have found a need to use any kind of sweetener in my almond milk), lots of fresh ground flax seed, and a sprinkling of nuts along with cinnamon (supposed to help your body regulate blood sugar). If I drank carrot juice, I ate a tablespoon of almond butter prior so that the sugar in the carrot juice (there's a lot of it) didn't affect my blood sugar. I followed that kind of a diet for about 3 months, then progressed to including fruit (all kinds and even dried) and now sugars of any type no longer bothers me. These recommendations came from my acupuncturist, but many on this list would cringe at that. You just have to find what works for you. Use stevia, and I've read now that Yacon syrup can be used as a sugar, maple syrup, and agave substitute and like stevia, that it does not affect blood sugar at all. The one thing I didn't feel comfortable with about juicing is that you seem to lose a lot of the fruit/veggies nutrients that would aid in the body's digestion and would also slow down the glycemic reaction. Just my thoughts based on what I've read and taken in from others in the past few years.
Guest guest
Beth, In January of this year my sugar was 520, local MD told me to start insulin immediately. I thought about, searched for MD's with a track record of actually curing diabetes without drugs and I found one. Green Smoothies were not helping, TOO much sugar. Dr. Fuhrman told me to use green not sweet apples, NO dates, 1/2 banana at most. Works better. NO, don't " take it easy " on dates, honey and sweetner. ELIMINATE THEM, at least until things have been under control for a while. Moderation kills when you are trying to reverse disease. The point is to reverse disease, not try to find incremental substitutes for what got you in trouble. ONLY " Take it easy " if you want to take it easy on getting rid of whatever troubles you. 7 months after I started, my sugar was 110 and A1c's were perfect with NO MEDS. I'm now 10 months down the road, I no longer have diabetes, no loger have coronary artery disease (PET scans say so)cholesterol is down from 490 to 140 with NO DRUGS, liver enzymes back to normal and I dropped 70 lbs although that was never the point or a goal. I'm now mostly raw vegan. I can tolerate a little sugar in my diet, but try to minimize it as I belive that even though the diabetes is cured and gone, I have a predisposition to get it back, kind of like a common cold. Most MD's would say nonsense, you can't get rid of it. But I have, so have MANY of my MD's patients (no drugs) and so have MANY people I met in various vegan pot lucks I attend. My personal theory now is that it is NOT what you ADD (such as cleanses, supplements, this berry, or that product) that really matter. What really matters is what you SUBTRACT, such as DAIRY, all animal products, processed oils, sugars (no matter what form). You have to constantly monitor your sugar. A computer program like many of the meter comapny's have is great. You just constantly download your meter and see what's going on and keep careful notes of what you are eating and keep beating on it. Constantly get A1c's run, like monthly to see the trend without waiting the usual time. Remember if you are losing weight too, your body is consuming a lot of carbs and animal fat (yours). Main key is find a doctor that understands and USES this approach. Possibly my MD would know of one in your area. You can ask him on his site www.drfuhrman.com Good Luck rawfood , " Beth Mouser " <mouser4 wrote: > I am interested in this because my mother with diabetes has just > started the Raw food diet. BUT, for the average person (vegan or not) it's better to encourage eating whole veggies & fruits due to high fiber content. Kristen
