Guest guest
I don't know much about water filters, per se, but I can tell you that where I live, we have no water service so all our water is rain water collected off the roof via a system of gutters and stored in a large " catchment. " After that it operates just like a well with a pump and pressure tank. Very few people here have reverse osmosis filters; as you say, they are very expensive. My house water goes through two sediment filters, one 20 micron and the next 10 micron. After that it goes through a UV filter to kill bacteria left by rats and birds on the roof. I don't know how raw foodists feel about the UV filter, it doesn't really heat the water and I'm not sure if water fits into the raw/cooked category anyway. But, rain water is basically distilled water and with just the filters and no chlorine, it is sweet and fresh and tastes wonderful. I change the sediment filters about once a month and the UV light once a year. Don't know if you could duplicate that with municipal water but maybe with a well. If you don't have a well, you might try a rain barrel, just for drinking and food prep. - Annie Hart rawfood Monday, October 16, 2006 7:26 AM [Raw Food] water filters? Hi, is anyone knowledgeable about water filters? I'd like to save myself some time from doing a ton of research. I have heard that reverse osmosis are the best, but they are very expensive. Any other decent options? Anyone heard of Aquansana? It gets good ratings and is reasonable but is not reverse osmosis.... thanks a bunch, Annie
Guest guest
I have shower and garden chlorine filters and they use KDF which is copper and zinc. Does anyone know about how effective or what mechanism these filters work? They start out shiny metalilic gold color and end up black.
