Guest guest
Hi guys : ) I have been off-and-on raw for most of this year. My longest time raw was 10 days, and I went off it completely for a few months and totally gained back everything I had accomplished. But, life is just one big experiment and the road to self-discovery cannot always be so straightforward, so I look back at all of that as a learning experience. I am now on my 9th day raw, coming up on my old record, and boy do I intend to surpass it. I haven't really had cravings for cooked food, per se, but not being able to eat what I feel are mor concentrated foods makes me like ... moody. I thought it was maybe just not eating enough, since raw tends to be very low calorie, too. But that's not it. I just get cranky and irritable when I've been raw for a time. I'm doing Frederic's Green Cleanse and in one of his e-mails he talked about detox symptoms--mentioned emotional detox. I was wondering, has anyone else experienced that when going raw? He says your body gets rid of all toxins, not just the particulate ones, but anything that's kind of.. keeping you from health. I find that eating something, exercising, or else taking deep breaths and finding something enjoyable to do help get me through these moods, but they're very harsh, and almost enough to drive one to do anything to relieve them (including eating cooked food). That's probably why I failed previously with sticking to this. I just get kind of pissed off and then it's " oh, who cares. " Just wondering if anyone else ever experienced this, and looking for reassurance that it passes >< Thanks : ) Jen
Guest guest
The moodswings do get better. After the initial emotional detox, I experienced a great sense of calmness and felt great emotionally. Hang in there. You will be so glad you did. Guest guest
Hi Jen, Ohhh, yeah! I've been on this path for about 2-1/2 yrs., gradually increasing the amount raw mostly. I have done several stretches of all-raw ranging from one day to 10 days, plus one month all-raw. It's complicated and everyone's physical and emotional responses will be different, I think. I was really depressed and anxious off and on for the first couple weeks of my raw month. Then I started feeling much better. If you can wait it out a bit, allow yourself to just feel whatever you're feeling, and tell yourself it will pass, I think it will. Take care, Laurie
Guest guest
The one time I ate cooked food was a very calculated episode and hasn't been repeated so that won't help you in the empathetic department. However, _you_ should care! And thank your thoughts for their input and go on with the Cleanse. I've not been able to do three smoothies every day but I'm drinking at least two. Tomorrow is the last day of the Cleanse but you can keep on the program indefinitely. I seldom have a day without a green smoothie--at least one and most days more. Are you getting enough calories? You can have fruit snacks, too, and savory green soups. Plus tomatoes, cucumbers, celery, and ripe sweet peppers are allowed. Don't deprive yourself of good food! Enjoy! Find a few combinations that you really love and have them often. Guest guest
I think that detoxing the body can definitely cause emotional detox as well as physical. It is even more pronounced when fasting- on an immediate level, if your body is not using energy to digest, it becomes so much more sensitive. And since feelings are stored in the body, it makes sense that as your cells release toxins that emotions could be released too. Plus in our world we use food so much for comfort and to avoid feelings. Also sugar is a definitely addictive substance, as is caffeine and probably some other things like carbs. All in all it makes sense. I have experienced this myself! The longer you stay raw the better you will feel emotionally. I imagine that going back and forth can feel like an emotional roller coaster. Try eating some more dense raw foods- like nut pates or raw hummus. When I first went raw some things that helped with my overall feeling if I started to feel bad were: to drink some juice, to never be hungry- (to always have something around to eat-raw of course) and to do enemas, which really helped with that dark feeling. terry
