Guest guest
I don't know about worms (gee, I would be grossed out by that!), but I always wonder what would cause bulk almonds to have little markings on them (little irregularly shaped areas where the white almond is not covered by the brown skin) that almost look like the almonds had been nibbled by mice. Could that be the case? If so, how unsanitary. Yuck! Judy In a message dated 11/20/2006 6:33:49 P.M. I was so happy to find such a good deal until I opened the box the next day and found worms and worm larva throughout the box of almonds. Is this a common thing? Are they okay to use after removing the larva and worms? I mostly use almonds for almond milk. So they get soaked and rinsed before use. If I miss a worm or larva in the cleaning process would I get sick? I tried to shake them out and got some out but it would take me forever to get all of them out. So I am freezing all the almonds, will that kill the worms and larva? I am pretty upset about this. Now I am finding worms that I dropped in the cleaning process. I am worried that now the worms will get into other food. This sucks!!! I'm going to call the company and complain, but I wanted to know it this is a common thing when buying bulk or completely unacceptable?!?! PLEASE HELP ME to know! Thanks. Guest guest
I work at a pest control company - doing green service - and as far as we know, moths aren't harmful for you - just gross. My boss (also my mom) actually cooks them up for the home and hardware shows and people eat them. I know, you're raw foodist so you'll have to eat them raw. LOL. I wouldn't, I don't eat meat.
