Guest guest
Hey guys, great to see an active group on raw foods out there! I am on my second whole day of going raw (yeah I just started, I'm ultra excited) and I just wanted to know how much weight people have lost on a raw diet. Obviously I'm doing the diet for more than just health reasons, but I'd be a liar if I didnt say that losing 20 lbs. would be great for me. Just wanted to see how people progressed on that end. Thanks and good luck. Best, Clare
Guest guest
I have not been doing 100% raw so that may be my problem. I am almost entirely raw when at home but when I go out I eat cooked food. I have not lost any weight probably partly because of being inconsistent and I'm wondering if all the nuts, coconut and avocado are playing a role in that (although I read somewhere that as long as it's raw you won't gain weight but I'm not so much believing that anymore). However, what I am noticing is that even though I haven't lost weight, my face looks thinner. I always tend to show weight gained or lost in my face. I'm not sure why my face would be thinner and yet I'd not have lost weight but I am 90% sure that is what is going on. I also notice that my focus has shifted to feeling healthy and eating healthy and I've been much less focused on my weight than I normally might be. That has felt very freeing. Guest guest
Carol, it's largely a myth that " it's okay as long as it's raw " . Lots of fat can cause lots of people lots of problems besides slowing weight loss. I can go for long periods of time without overt fat even though I love it! As for your face getting thinner, that's where my weight loss shows up first--there, my hands, and my feet! Seems the mid-section is the last of all. I don't dwell on weight loss any more because it's ceased to be a problem. Guest guest
Congratulations on your decision to go raw. May it serve you well : ) Don't be too harsh on yourself, though--don't try to be so perfect that you end up binging and hating yourself, going through emotional cycles. That's what happened to me. I've been trying to be raw for pretty much this entire year, and until now had only succeeded in doing it for 10 days before I gave in and went off it almost completely for a matter of months. When I was mostly raw, including the time I was 10 days, I dropped weight very rapidly, about 20-30 pounds (I was about 50 pounds above my ideal weight). I didn't even exercise in the beginning--all of that was just eating raw. I found Gabriel Cousen's approach the best for the beginning, though it's probably harder. He says to transition the body, and help clear toxins the fastest, it's good to go on a low glycemic diet for a few months, then progressively transition to the higher glycemic stuff like tropical fruits. This worked for me. Just going all raw eating all the grapes, pineapple, mangoes, etc I wanted I did not lose weight. I'm also blessed with acne, and that did not lessen much eating high glycemic in the beginning. Once I started eating more greens and low glycemic fruits, I was losing a pound or two *a day* and my acne got much better. I find greens to be *very key*, at least in the beginning when detox is so important. I swear even now I can tell the difference in my appearance if I go a day without chlorophyll ;P I've just recently gotten back to 100% raw; right now I've been raw for exactly two weeks today, beating my previous record every day now. In those two weeks I've lost about 6 pounds. I've been actively exercising daily and getting sunshine this time around, too, and I feel really great about it and am not giving it up this time : ) One other important thing I've found for beginning the raw diet, and any time in it, really is to eat only when you are hungry. Some days I'm just not hungry and I don't eat at all. I still have the energy most of the time to exercise the next day, so this doesn't seem to be a bad thing. On days I do eat I'm quite sure I'm not actually getting enough calories as per government " recommendations, " but I just listen to my body and eat when something appeals to me, and carefully listen to my body for the signals when to stop eating. I'm still in the beginning, so I realize this might still be signs of detoxing--I know a lot of beginner's fast, sometimes for very long lengths, in the beginning. I take my lack of appetite as my body's way of transitioning and cleaning up, and assume I will have an appetite eventually. Until then I've got plenty of energy and can't complain otherwise, so.. it's probably fine, yah? Hope that helped.. probably more than you wanted to hear. Guest guest
Carol Ann - my face is the first place people notice weight loss/gain, too. For me I have to stay away from salt and dehydrated foods to lose weight. I've not noticed too much weight gain or difference in weight with avocados in my diet. The best difference I've noticed is in the summer when I eat a lot of melon and I mean A LOT of melon. Last summer I was feeling great and looking great eating about 10 - 15# of watermelon a day. Now it's cooling off and I want more nuts and I've noticed my pants are getting a little tighter so I've backed off the nuts and added more green smoothies and aim to lose weight before January! Guest guest
Clare, I started eating Raw in August. I was really great (100%) for two months and then fell off the path by letting bites (of SAD) here and there sneak back in or having a bowl of soup in the fall. I gained weight immediately. I currently have " released " 14 pounds since August 5th. ( I released another 12 pounds from the previous 4 months, but that was a TON of work counting all of my calories and watching everything that I ate, with raw i really don't need to do that at all, i just make sure that i don't eat too much fat) I am now back on track. It works for me because I notice a difference right away. I feel better and i look better. Releasing weight is an inspiration to stay raw, but the longer that you are raw the more you notice that your skin and your hair becomes radiant. For me, I have next to no allergies anymore and other really nice changes have occurred for my body. That is more my inspiration now than anything else. When people ask me I come up with my list of why it works for me. Best of luck to you on your raw journey. Aphrodite
