Guest guest
Sorry for the overshare if some of you don't want to hear this. I've been lurking on the group for awhile, enjoying all the info I've picked up. But now I have a question... When switching to a raw food diet, did any of you ladies experience changes with menstruation? I'm praticing FAM to avoid getting pregnant and I've seen some changes. I was supposed to start menstruating on Sunday and I still haven't. I'm wondering if this is due to going raw (today is day 10) or if I need to start digging out a pregnancy test... Pregnant would be a blessing, but it would definitely be unplanned. My hubby and I just celebrated our first anniversary.

Guest guest
My first cycle after going raw was almost a full week shorter, *surprise!!* so I can imagine some variation happening due to the diet changes. TMI warning: It was also a lot more fluid, seeming " cleaner " somehow, and the cramps were lessened. I think it lasted longer as well. But I thought I was going to go through a whole box of pads that first one! It slowed down a little for the second, but that could be because that's when I went off the pill, too. Guest guest
FAM - I don't know the acronym, but it means that she is counting the days of her cycle to figure out about when she ovulates and then abstains from intercourse or uses additional birth control. This works well if a woman has a regular cycle. Of course, you never know when your cycle could become irregular, often times you find out when it's too late! Guest guest
When I first went raw I ended up not having a cycle for three months. Then it came back and was lighter than ever. Now, after three years raw, it's fairly regular. winterpromise31 <winterpromise31 rawfood Tuesday, November 21, 2006 10:38:37 AM [Raw Food] Menstruation Sorry for the overshare if some of you don't want to hear this. Guest guest
FAM is the Fertility Awareness Method. It's a bit more complicated than counting days. You take your temperature upon waking each morning (temperature spikes the day after ovulation and remains high until the day your menstruation begins) and watch cervical mucous and positioning. With some practice, you can tell exactly when you ovulate, the time frames that you're fertile, and when you should start menstruating. It's really cool. This is my fifth month on it and I like it way better hormonal birth control. Like eating raw foods, it puts you in better touch with your body. I've looked, but haven't seen any info on the web about FAM and going raw. It's important, because that's what I'm relying on for birth control. Right now, my temperature is staying high each morning, so I can tell that either my body isn't ready for menstruation or I conceived this month (I tested and that's a no). I'm just not sure if going raw and detoxing is putting additional stress on my body and delaying that. rawfood , Paula Wood <wolfmother1 wrote: > > FAM - I don't know the acronym, but it means that she is counting the days of her cycle to figure out about when she ovulates and then abstains from intercourse or uses additional birth control. Guest guest
That is interesting. I have always had trouble menstruating but I was told byt he doctor you should have one to release that build up because it wasn't healthy to not do that. Guest guest
I too have noticed some nice changes. I menstruate one day less than before and I have very little if any cramps, this in itself is a HUGE change. I also have not had any symptoms of my Endometriosis. (i would have already had symptoms by now if eating SAD) I have been raw since the beginning of August. Congrats on making healthy changes. Guest guest
You'll have to remember that whatever most doctors tell you is based on SAD, not raw. Most physicians have no idea what a raw food diet is, therefore they can't tell a female raw foodist what should be normal for her. Guest guest
Yep I was told that traditional western MD's will say that as they are not educated in nutrition and the raw foods etc. and the history of many cultures and their diets etc. many woman did not and do not mensturate and are considered more healthy, still ovulating and having babies etc. --- Terry Bakhtiari <pablobully wrote: > That is interesting. Guest guest
Most physicians can't tell ANYONE what should be or is normal. IMHO
