Guest guest
Yes, I love pears. Thanks for the advice. I can't help but wonder how greens and fruit would taste together. Is it good? Elizabeth - SV rawfood Wednesday, November 22, 2006 2:19 PM [sPAM] Re: [Raw Food] Evaluate my smoothie . . . I'd leave out the avocado and if you want more thickness, add more bananas. I usually do 1/2 a bunch of spinach or half a head of romaine with 1 cup water, 3 or 4 pears or right now I'm doing overripe persimmons. I try to keep it as simple as I can. Very rarely do I go over two ingredients and I never use dates to sweeten, I just use more fruit. Ripe pears are very good for sweetening. Guest guest
Thanks LinLin. I think you're right--far too many calories. Did you use Fitday.com? I've been meaning to do that but haven't. It would be a useful tool. Thanks, Elizabeth - LinLin rawfood Wednesday, November 22, 2006 3:05 PM [sPAM] Re: [Raw Food] Evaluate my smoothie . . . I ran your smoothie ingredients through a calorie-counting program and it looks like it has about 750. Between 1200 and 1500 calories per day promotes weight loss in most people so your smoothie is half or more of that. Unless you're not eating for the rest of the day, I don't think you will lose with this recipe. You might consider cutting your portion size down to 1/2 or even 1/3 of the total, or maybe just making less; i.e., 1/4 avo, 1/2 banana, 1 kiwi, 2 dates, and 1 small apple (closer to 300 calories). Good luck. - Elizabeth Phillips rawfood Wednesday, November 22, 2006 6:39 AM [Raw Food] Evaluate my smoothie . . . Hey Folks, I would like your collective opinion on the smoothie I had for breakfast this morning. I am kinda-sorta doing the fruit-'til-noon thing that Harvey Diamond talked about in this book " Fit for Life, Not Fat for Life. " It kinda works for me--when I do it I feel better, though I can't really say why. Anyway, here is what I made: 2 apples 1 banana 1 kiwi 4 soaked dates 1 avocado I think that's all. I added a little water for combining. It makes a really yummy smoothie and is filling. Does it sound too fattening? I know it's a lot of fruit. Sometimes when I have other fruits, such as asian pears (yum!) I'll add those as well in place of an apple. I've also done it with fewer dates and less avocodo. I do need to lose weight (about 35 lbs). Would this prevent me from losing? I like having the avocado in it--the fat seems to make it more filling. Thanks for any comments/opinions you have. Guest guest
Yes, it is very good. You don't know how hesitant I was to try a " green " smoothie, what the heck?......... When I finally tasted it, the taste was wonderful. It's the color that puts some folks off. Try putting it in a solid mug or cup so you can't see it the first time you try to drink it. At least that's something I think might work. Or close your eyes to drink the first couple times. Shari
