Guest guest
No pun intended. Hello all! I have not been a member here for very long although I love the group. I am very new to raw food and am having a fun time trying out the recipes as well as appreciating the information provided. Here is my problem, I am juicing, smoothing to death. I like this but I know I will get bored if I cannot dehydrate. I go to the health food store when I can but that can be expensive for me. I need a dehydrator and will not be able to afford one for a little while longer (single mom, student). If anyone has a food dehydrator they are not using or have upgraded (and one is hanging around) and are willing to let me have it on the (real) cheap side or are willing to donate it please email me at gsabra2 Also, are there any recipes for crackers, cookies, breads, veggies, etc. that I can use with my oven as a dehydrator? Thank you guys in advance and it is a delight to have found you! Love and light..
Guest guest
I found a dehydrater used off the internet. I'm not sure if it is all over the us or not but it is called crages list. maybe you might have an other one for your town. Guest guest
Might be worth a try to check out Craigslist for your locale once a week or so. I got a beautiful juicer for $10 that way. Guest guest
Have you tried the thrift stores? I got mine there. Also remember that you don't have to start with an Excalibur dehydrator any with a temperature control will work, the round kind run from 30-60 dollars compared to the 200 for an Excalibur. At the thrift store you can get a square (Excalibur or Harvest Made) dehydrator from 5-20 dollars and then you may have to replace the heating element for 10-50 dollars. I found mine in the microwave area and it worked for a year with out any work needing to be done on it.
Guest guest
You can also try another called " freecycle " where you can ask for free items in your local area. If you go to , and type in freecycle, a page comes up where you can type in your zip code and it will let you know of any local " freecycleing " groups. These groups were started to get people to recycle their items, rather than put them in land fills. I belong to the las vegas one and have Given away tons of stuff....and have gotten tons of stuff. Its a great group to belong to and best of all its free. When I first went raw, I asked for a dehydrator, a sprouter and a few books and got all kinds of stuff free...I just had to go pick it up! Just my $.02 worth! belly_dancer_one <belly_dancer_one wrote: Have you tried the thrift stores? I got mine there. Guest guest
Thank you all for responding to my post. I will look up the freecycle, craigs and the thrift stores. Funny enough a month ago I was at a thrift store saw a dehydrator and my mind said to get it at $40. buck and then my other mind said " for what? " Conciously I had not decided to go raw matter of fact had only discovered at that time that I did not really like the feel of cooked meat in my mouth (but could do sushi, most fruits were too sweet for me, dairy products could ruin my day, and had grown an adversion to anything white since I did Atkins, oh and yes the only thing I really liked was Vegetables..uncooked. Ask me what it feels like to be 42 have your friends declare you a vegetarian and argue with them that you are not. I could tell you matter of fact I still do not claim to be a veggie (am I in denial?) but do claim going raw. I doing the do! But gals and guys while I save for that dehydrator or find in my favorite hunts how about a few recipes that will fill me up? Blessings and thanks for being here? rawfood , " loulin3 " <Joyloulin wrote: > > oops - it's craigslist.org > Forgot the S after craig > > Louise > > rawfood , potato@ wrote: > > > > I found a dehydrater used off the internet.
