Guest guest
Hi -- I keep looking at recipes for stuff, but if they have nuts and such in the recipe, it says to " soaked " --- is there a healthy way to eat a vegan raw diet without soaking, sprouting, dehydrating, etc.??? I wanted to make a pie today, but it said to use soaked almonds and dates. I looking for simplicity, as that's how I see a raw diet as being. Thanks, Kessa
Guest guest
Hi, YES you can become and stay Raw Vegan and do it simply -- I think that's the universe's natural way of providing whats best for us -- SIMPLE. Soaking nuts helps them to be more digestable due to the natural fact that nuts dry out as they fall from the tree, sit on the ground, wait to be opened etc.... Nuts also have a high fat content - so be aware of how much of your diet you are willing to devote to fats. Seeds of course are a bit higher on the food chain, easier to digest, less fat still helps to soak a couple hours because they have been sitting around, drying out on their own. Most main stream Raw food recipes use quite a bit of the items you mentioned. Dr. Doug Graham is one of the people who advocates using less of these items, he does have recipes though I'm not sure if he has any pie or pie crust recipes... (sorry, I'm still new to his info - tho I'm really tuning into it) My thoughts are to follow your cue to keep your Raw experience simple and not to give in to the main stream idea that you have to prepare foods or buy dehydrators and such -- I have done both and am willing to sell off my dehydrator and juicer now and go back to my first love and most healthful experiences which were very simple. Hope that's of some help I will share what I can -- also take a look at Bryan Au's Raw in Ten Minutes site or cookbook as he does a pretty good job as well - there are a few ingredients he uses that I don't agree with for myself, but I'm pretty good at figuring out a substitute... feel free to ask me any q's Lesa >

Guest guest
Hi Kessa, The simple answer to your question is " yes " . You need not eat all those nuts and seeds, you'll experience far more energy without them. Check out Doug Graham's 80/10/10 approach, check out Doug's VegSource board, check out the PathOfHealth group, all great resources. Simplicity in diet means out of the kitchen, eating the foods as they occur in Nature (or very nearly so), just as you say ... one food at a time or at least in very simple, well-chosen combinations. It's actually quite easy, far easier than all these recipes, and far healthier, too! Look at the recipes on the list website. Many of them require nothing more than a little knife action. Before I got my dehydrator, I found that I could get by with most recipes without dehydrating. they just won't be that solid. I think that is what they call pate (if it is a savory flavor) and pudding if it is on the sweet side. (just this week, I made Judy's pumpkin pie recipe and just ate it from a bowl. People who saw it said it looked gross, but it tasted great) even now, I don't put most things in the dehydrator unless I just know I am not going to eat it all before it goes bad... then I will make patties or bars or cookies. Then, of course, you could just eat the food as it comes from the store,i.e., unprocessed. A lot of people think that is the way to go. Guest guest
Hi Kessa, >looking for simplicity, as that's how I see a raw diet as being. There are a number of recipes on Gone Raw that are quick and easy. These have really helped me out, as I often don't think ahead about soaking, etc. http://goneraw.com/recipes/list/quick Cheers, Kandace
