Guest guest
Hi again, In my recent posts I had mentioned how 'sick' I had been feeling for a few days. I had been very surprised b/c I hadn't been sick once since going 100% Raw Vegan and doing it cold turkey the end of June this year. I've lost a conciderable amount of weight, my athsma & sleep apnea have 'disappeared' and I have generally been feeling great. I had been gradually noticing a reaction to the amount of 'fat' foods in my diet, but they seemed to be the foods that were allowing me to not 'feel' hungry. I took a couple steps back re-introducing apple cider vinegar, spices like cayenne, ginger & garlic in an attempt to add some flavor. I also re-introduced salt in the liquid ionic form. These changes slowed my weight loss although not a big concern because I am at a healthier wieght now (I'd like to lose a bit more tho). I had stopped eating prepared and raw deli (I live in NYC) foods because of the ingredients such as miso, salt, grains and high nut meat content. I also had noticed over the last few months that any root vegies weren't agreeing with me, so had stopped eating those as well -- I still think that was a good decision. Then I found a raw foodie support group here online as well as a live F2F meeting in my neighborhood. I brought my thoughts and experiences to the table in that forum as well. Old timer raw foodies agreed I was on the right track and suggested that I continue to process my thoughts about the fat content & processed nature of foods such as oils (which I already was mulling over). Last night I had the opportunity to hear Doug Graham speak. I was very encouraged to hear someone speak who thought more along the lines that I do, although he has way many more years of practice, research and experience helping others behind him. As I listened, I realized my mistakes along the raw path that I am choosing - I am trying to listen to my intuition & body neither of which has had much experience communicating with me or me with them and my body isn't very healthy yet; when faced with symtoms of 'sickness' I reached backward to old stuff that I thought I had processed; I asked lots of ppl lots of questions and chose to follow what sounded great without finding out if the answer was given by a good leader (one who has sucessfully accomplished what I want to do)... the result was another day of illness, yesterday with vomiting and diareah this time. I knew at the time I was hugging the toilet bowl that it was the sea weed. The thought never occured to me to keep going with what had been working - which for me is a higher volume of fruits, celery/lettuces and above ground vegies. Dr. Graham indicates that taking a break when not feeling well, getting qualified assistance and if food is one of the factors in the illness then eating the highest quality food in moderation. I did learn a lot from my detox/illness - being sick the past 3 days. 1: Miso has grains, it ups the amount of mucus & phlem in my system, it also is very salty, which bloats me and deadens my taste buds for a number of hours 3-4 it seems. 2: Fat, in the form or oils are processed foods - I haven't found an olive oil tree yet... so if I want it I'll chose to eat the olives over the oil. 3: Nuts & Seeds - I need to cut back on both (some is good less is more), I had thought about this ages ago as I tried to open walnuts from a tree in my yard in Virginia years ago, they are the hardest things to get into and I wouldn't bother to eat them if my life depended on it - I'd eat pine needles first...and they don't really satisfy me although they help me to fill up, if I'm hungry I'll chose more fruit first. 4: Sea Vegetables or Sea Weed - I like Nori rolls once in a while ---- I grew up in Southern Maine and I wouldn't even dream of putting sea weed in my mouth why start now, especially when it makes me throw up. I am feeling better this morning. Hope all is well with you and yours. Lets all have a great, productive, loving day where ever we are... Guest guest
I grew up and live in Maine too and I agree, eating seaweed just doesn't seem natural to me.
