Guest guest
Excalibur is all plastic and sucks, they keep promoting making beef jerky, when I met them I could tell they are not really into being vegetarian or raw and that they only do it for the money, they are really fake and all their parts are plastic, flimsy and gross I finally found a much better brand, make, model with tons of better features, is nice glass cover so you can see the food and not have to remove the cover all the time, the inside, and trays is metal so you don't get plastic all in your food or body anymore! Why did we ever use EXCALIBUR? EX TO EXCALIBUR! Here is the info, it is a little more BUT WORTH IT YOU ARE WORTH IT: THE BEST Dehydrator and I am going to promote this to the RAW FOOD COMMUNITY big time is Cabela! http://www.cabelas.com/hprod-1/0019202.shtml Cabela IS AWESOME as you can see from the photos, ok so they are a little more but they ROCK! They are all metal and glass, it is only plastic outside. And it is digital and all groovy. I discovered them when my friend opened her raw organic restaurant TERRA BELLA, in Redondo Beach in Los Angeles I LOVED IT and makes Excalibur so lame. When I got the new Excalibur dehydrators I immediately noticed a very strong outgassing of plastic, then the trays were plastic too and the little screens on the tray were also plastic and outgassing huge fumes! I tried to " AIR " it out by turning it on and guess what MORE PLASTIC smell and odor came off of everything even stronger! I didn't know what to do. SO I tried to air it out as much as I could but the smell got stronger and stronger, my lungs felt so polluted. Yuk! But I had to make food sooner or later so I started to use it and I noticed that all my food had a plastic smell and taste, this never decreases over time that much I have no idea why anyone would use a Excalibur Dehydrator I SAY EX TO EXCALIBUR also notice how Cabela says JERKY and not specifically BEEF JERKY? Nice! I was really upset, I called Excalibur and told them about my plastic complaint/problem and asked them if they could design a glass/stainless steele model for me they said it would cost too much, of course they did not mention Cabela! Only many many years later after much plastic in my food, pollution, dissapointment as the plastic never really stops outgassing it just is less noticeable but because of the heat and nature of plastic is ALWAYS THERE OUTGASSING PLASTIC MOLECULES INTO MY FOOD AND LUNGS! Finally I discovered there are better Dehydrators and that are glass so you can see the food and not have to take the dang cover on and off wasting heat and also time and more plastic in the food! ONLY CABELA so spread this in the RAW FOOD COMMUNITY THEY ARE THE BEST AND ONLY A LITTLE MORE it is WORTH IT. They are easier to clean, better design, all have a timer, EX to EXCALIBUR WHICH DOES NOT HAVE THESE FEATURES they have a timer but not on all models and is extra cost and flimsy knobs that break. Guest guest
I happen to like my excalibur. I have never had a problem with mine and use it all the time! It may not be the most expensive model on the market, but it does the job just fine!~ carolyna_first <carolyna_first wrote: Excalibur is all plastic and sucks, they keep promoting making beef jerky, when I met them I could tell they are not really into being vegetarian or raw and that they only do it for the money, they are really fake and all their parts are plastic,

Guest guest
Cabelas is America's HUNTING STORE. What they promote is killing animals. Plastic doesn't cause any problems if used within design temperature ranges and in fact consumes less resources in it's manufacture. I am a manufacturing engineer and make these calculations all day, everyday. Thermoplastics are very cool materials if properly selected according to application. There are much better dehydrators like the harvest saver, but they cost much more money and the payback doesn't exist, unless you are operating the units commercially. Efficiency includes efficiency of funds. > THE BEST Dehydrator and I am going to promote this to the RAW FOOD > COMMUNITY big time is Cabela! Guest guest
Cabela is still better on all levels. The plastic in Excalibur sucks, doesn't sound like you use them otherwise you would agree, anyways I know they advocate hunting, but in the world they advocate cooking, meat eating etc. but at least they don't talk about making BEEF JERKY they only say JERKY, anyways the choices are up to you, I wanted people to know about Cabela, no one told me, and I think it is a much superior product/design/value than Excalibur, I want people to be aware there are better dehydrators out there, I feel ripped off by Excalibur on a lot of levels. Guest guest
I thought all food dehydrators are plastic other than the big industrial types that probably suck so much energy your bills go up. $$$ Judy Cozza <judycozza wrote: I have two of them - EXCALIBUR ROCKS!!! Guest guest
Well, I can certainly see that you are unhappy with this dehydrator, but I have to at least comment that Excalibur IS a business, so of course their aim is to make money, and absolutely not would they refer you to a competitor! The raw/macro community is still a fledgling lifestyle, especially in the land-locked Midwest. Local newspapers frequently host " shoot fests " with the additional promotion of dehydrating the kill. Couple that with the rapidly declining income for most families and it's easy to see that plastic dehydrators fill a niche. Most folks could care less about out-gassing and I suspect it's be tough to find 2 people in my little town (southeastern Colorado) that even know what out-gassing is, let alone care about it. We have nearly as many liquor stores as we do dollar stores and Walmart has put everything out of business, even some of our local, organic farm markets. ...and yes, Walmart sells dehydrators too, cheap, plastic, melt-on-your-food units. Our extension office even offers classes on how to preserve food using a dehydrator....PRESERVE food, not prepare it for consumption on a raw diet. It's only in the last 5 years that restaurants have even offered anything on their menu that a vegetarian can eat (aside from salad from a bag slathered in nasty bottled dressing)....and I can tell you THAT change has come from a select few folks politely offering some suggestions on how to cater oh so slightly to a growing trend in healthy eating. I'd encourage you to encourage Excalibur. Inform them of the " new eating lifestyles " and how Excalibur can profit from their consideration of a new line of dehydrators. Talk to them on their level....MONEY.... That's the only way we can make a change for the betterment of us all. Guest guest
Oh and PS...Cabellas is the largest promoter of hunting in the U.S., and not always in a humane way either. Kendra
Guest guest
Probably they say " jerky " rather than " beef jerky " because some of their purchasers make venison jerky and pheasant jerky. I doubt they are thinking about vegetable jerky. And.I sort of don't care. I have an Excalibur and I love it and if you love your Cabela good for you - it's always good to find something you really love. Guest guest
I would say that most people are out to get money. I know when I go to work I want to get paid for what I do. That is so I can go out and buy the things I want or need also to pay my bills. If I had a business I would want to sell what I make to all so I could make all I could. My son makes trays and he make all kinds that way he can make the most. They are cramation trays. Theresa \o/
