We have two 9 tray excalibur dehydrators and ours are cracking!

For that reasonI have been looking for a new dehydrator company.

I found the Living Food Dehydrator. Has anyone seen these? What do you

think? They are square with removable trays but they are made of wood.

I went searching for these the other day and per price, ease of use, and

cleaning found the Cabelas brand the best for a very active dehydrator.

Cabela's® Commercial Food Dehydrators

Do you make large quantities of jerky or other dehydrated foods, but

get tired of refilling your dehydrator several times a day? Then you

need the convenience of these commercial-grade dehydrators. Available

in an extra-spacious 160-liter model or a large 80-liter model,

they'll tackle all your dehydrating needs in one shot. The 80-liter

model has 12 (21-1/2 " X16 " ) non-stick drying racks for a total of 28

sq. ft. Its larger counterpart has 24 (21-1/2 " X16 " ) racks for a total

of 56 sq. ft. Both have a drying power of 1,600 watts and a fully

insulated housing that maintains a maximum drying temperature of 160°,

for a maximum drying time of 12 hours. A built-in drain reservoir

catches drippings making clean-up quick and easy. And the glass-front

doors let you see your progress without having to open the unit and

release the heat. With fully digital controls, these units let you set

the exact temperature and time needed to reach your desired results.

The thermostat maintains the temperature and shuts the unit off at the

end of the set time cycle. 110 volt, 60 Hz.

# Available: 80 Liter Around $300

# 160 Liter Around #400

Exterior measures:

# 80 liter - 22-1/2 " T X 20-1/2 " D X 24 " W

# 160 liter - 36-1/2 " T X 20-1/2 " D X 24 " W

In comparison the largest non comercial excalaber is around $220- $250

made of plastic (with teenage boys plastic gets nocked off of counters

and things get broken) The other real choice for such a large one it

the kit that you mentioned which even though I have never used a

wooden one, I have used a wooden chopping block and flavors get

trapped in and you can not clean it all out with out putting some

other chimical into your mouth. Also prolonged use of wood products

with moisture tend to expand and contract until they crack. With

those things in mind the best for me for doing large amounts (I have a

family of 5) without being totaly outragious is the Cabela's above at

www.cabelas.com go to food & food prep and then to dehydrators.
