How do you find the motivation to stay raw??../Cracker Recipes

Good morning after Christmas, Jaye!

There are cracker recipes in the files section but, for me, they only

prolonged the cravings. What took care of mine (for crunch) was to

eat celery until they went away. You'll miss things as long as you

let yourself think about them. I quit trying to replicate dishes I

was used to when I ate cooked and learned to enjoy the food the way

it is. On a typical day, I drink a lot of smoothies and eat lots of

fruit. In the evening, I have my savory foods. I document what I eat

on a daily basis on my blog. When you eat raw, you're learning a

whole new way of enjoying your food. Your tastebuds will come along!

at this, we've been raw for about three weeks. I am missing texture

in foods. So many of the dinner-type things I am making are mushy.

The three attempts I've made at crackers have been less than

successful. We eat a lot of fruit, a big salad each day, and at

least one smoothie a day (with kale thrown in.) But I'm missing hot,

hearty things like soup, and crunchiness, like crackers. Any

suggestions? (We have a Vitamax, a food processor and a

dehydrator. Instead of buying Christmas gifts for each other, we

decided to buy the appliances that could help us in a new healthy

lifestyle.)

Sometimes dehydrated foods like crackers, especially when you FIRST

are going raw, are just about essential to staying raw. I would

totally consider a dehydrator, those crackers save many. A simple

fresh diet is ideal, but it takes time to get to that point!

great for this). This avoids the blood sugar dips and cravings. I

find green smoothie in the morning with some Udo's Oils in it is

ideal. That 'base' keeps me craving-free and totally in control!

Thanks, Tommie :)

It is interesting how our taste buds change.  I made a recipe for almond butter

balls, and it's ground up sunflower seeds mixed with honey, almond butter and

raisins.   They were better than candy!   But a few weeks ago, I wouldn't have

ever dreamed I'd love something like that :)   It was a little hard over the

holiday weekend with so many temptations and social situations, but now that I'm

back in my work routine, I'm thinking it'll be an easier week.

This is quick and crunchy. make the thinnest slices of fresh zucchini

or yellow summer squash. spritz with a slight bit of braggs liquid

aminos and dehydrate at 105 until crispy. You don't even have to turn

them they dry so well. Also for variety I sprinkle with garlic or

onion juice. taste delicious and satisfies the cravings and you are

still eating raw. Enjoy!

I have found that, when I " want to be bad " , my corn chips do the

trick.

They are an easy dehydrator recipe.

The recipe is located in the list recipe files as Corn Chips III -

if you forget, the information also says " from Margaret "

I learned this recipe from my teacher Lillian Butler, in Harlem,

Manhattan, New York City.

I have slightly adjusted it to my taste. You can do the same...

Currently, I like to sprinkle in a lot of chile seasoning...

A few months ago, I used a lot of cumin....

You can decide what you want it to taste like after you make the

base (i.e., the ingredients with no seasoning -- delicious on its

own!)

These crackers disappear wherever I offer them, regardless of

whether the people are raw, vegan, or SAD

If you want to feel really BAD, eat them with Tommie's Cheddar

Cheese (in the list recipes Cheese file)

Before you start getting hankerings, go to the list recipe files...

I have spent almost a year (okay, I started last January) culling

the list files from 1998, when the list started, as well as visiting

suggested websites from that time, and developing the files/archives.

I copy things off websites (and cite the websites/sources!!!!!)

because, unfortunately, often sites disappear... (dont' believe me --

go through the early files and try to find some of those sources!!!

too lazy? Go through the list links and try to find some of *those*

sources!) Copying files and clearly citing them satisfies copyright

regulations and, at the same time, ensures that the information will

be available as long as the list owner agrees to maintain this list,

and as long as the list maintains active, *and* as long as

continues to offer this facility to the public. (that

can often be longer than the life of a website)

Long story short...

Go to the files!!! Go to the files!!!! Go to the files!!!!

Got it?

Margaret
