Smoked Foods

Technically smoked food is not raw really. But I have

to admit that I do buy smoked salmon occasionally and

put it on top of a large veggie salad. It feels raw

when you touch it, not like fully cooked salmon would

be. I don't know, I haven't been eating raw food for

all that long, but I know I feel really good after

eating that salad!

Funny, when I read that post, I thought she/he was

asking about curing food by smoking rather than by

dehydrating -- thought it was a good question --

smoked foods are not really cooked and not really raw

-- somewhere in the middle? Can you smoke fruits and

veggies or nuts and seeds and would you even want to?

Guess my mind just works differently. Aloha.

I should think you could smoke a kebab with tomato, pepper, onion,

pineapple and other tasty veggie/fruit chunks. It takes some of the

raw off, like steaming, but if done sparingly I think of smoking as a

condiment.

Like the original poster (OP), I enjoy a bit of smoked fish in my

salad on rare occasions. In my mind, though, it's an indulgance. One

way I'm not 100% raw is that I rationalize that mixing anything with

an equal weight of kale and romain makes it only half as evil.

Also, like the OP, I think ultimate guide for food is what it does

when you eat it. Listen to your body.
