Guest guest
Hello everyone! My name is Jen and I live in Indiana. I'm 29 years old. Overweight and have an underactive thyroid. I've been trying to lose weight for YEARS. Since going on thyroid hormones a year ago, I have had the best weightloss but I still have a long way to go. I'm down 60 pounds from my highest weight. Last year I was just stuck and then I read an article in a cheapo magazine I happen to pick up at the supermarket about the book, The Raw Food Detox Diet. I gave 80% raw a try and had some good success. This summer I got to my lowest weight since high school. For this reason and another list of poor excuses, I stopped hitting the raw food and had a significant gain the last couple months. Thing is I do not eat much and I'm hungry all the time. So now I am eager to make raw eating work for me. I have several issues that I'd like to discuss and hear about if you would indulge me! 1. I'm overwhelmed. I am actually surprised at how many sources I've been able to find. I've read several books and I've looked online for hours and hours for information and I become overwhelmed. I'm a very visual person so I do feel I am lacking in that type of education. 2. I live in INDIANA! UGH Resources for natural products are not plentiful. But in an effort to not be totally negative, I am an hour and a half from Chicago which I know has many good sources. I'm guessing I need to find some online shops to buy from? 3. One of my biggest factors is cost. It has proven to be an expensive way to eat. I have a family of 5 and I'd really like to influence my young kids so they won't have to learn a whole new lifestyle when they grow up. I want this to be second nature to them. So I know I am going to have to just accept that we are worth the cost. Unfortunately we are on a very limited income so I am having to tighten up where I can. That has not left me much to buy the information I want. I really need information on food preparation and recipes. I've come across some websites that offer classes but none in my area. I'll probably need to check out some videos or DVD's but I get overwhelmed trying to figure out what will be my best buy and nervous that I'll waste my money or something. I'm excited to give this a shot and would really appreciate your help! Thanks! Guest guest
Hi Jen, Sorting through all the various and often conflicting raw info can definitely be overwhelming, especially in the beginning. I didn't want to invest in a lot of unknown books and dvd's, either, so I got many books at my local library to see if I wanted to buy them. A lot of what I got may have been frustrating or confusing at times, and I'm glad I didn't give up on raw altogether. I kept searching for an approach that made sense to me. We are used to trusting " experts, " doctors, almost anything outside ourselves--especially with regard to health. I think that is a big part of the problems we can run into on this path. I would recommend you tune into yourself, how you feel, your intuition, as you read things. And consider that this will be a process--you probably won't arrive at the " perfect " answer or way immediately. Don't know if that helps; it helped me. Some resources I would highly recommend: http://health.PathOfHealth/ (Elchanan's and Bob Farrell's excellent discussion group with access to teleconferences and lots of archived information) http://health.Rawschool/ (Nora Lenz's discussion group, also wonderful archives. Her story and articles are also on her main site at www.rawschool.com) www.rawhealing.com (Audrey Walker's site w/an inspirational personal story and link to lots of very high-quality writings on Natural Hygiene) There will be lots of tips on either discussion group about what to eat and how to find it at the best prices. Dr. Doug Graham just came out with his new book, " The 80/10/10 Diet. " I haven't read it yet, but his approach makes the most sense to me and I can't wait to get it. It sounds great! I have read other stuff by him (booklets, articles) and watched his dvd " Making Friends with Your Food, " which had a couple great sections, but I think it costs about $300. Best wishes, Laurie rawfood , " Jennifer Beschinski " <Jenifer9 wrote: > > Hello everyone! Guest guest
I've seen the 80/10/10 plan referenced before, but don't know anything about it. Is it recommending 80% fruits and veggies, 10% seeds & amp; nuts, and 10% fat? Or something else? >>>Dr. Doug Graham just came out with his new book, " The 80/10/10 Diet.
