Guest guest
Hi everyone, I've been raw over 1 month. Not 100% raw because my food dehydrator hasn't come in. Before raw I was a binge eater. I still am but I eat mostly fruit instead of my usual combo #3 double big mac before bed time almost every night. Since being raw, I have cut out almost all fast foods, and high fatty foods. Yet Im gaining weight. I consume alot of nuts. I am wondering if that could be it? I don't want to count calories. I want to be free from weight issues, but I can't fit into my clothes anymore. Im starting to hide behind baggy sweaters and sweat pants again and I feel like Im taking steps backwards not getting as healthy on raw as possible. Any tips or pointers for lil ol me? Guest guest
Hello, Start by cutting out all fast foods. Fast foods just don't cut it when you want to lose weight. Even their salads have a lot of fat in them, from the croutons, to the meat to the cheese and the dressing. There are some salads at fast food restaurants that have more fat than the burgers..... I am not sure what you ARE eating from them, but that could be one of the things preventing you from losing. Nuts can be healthy, but only in SMALL doses (1/2 cup to 3/4 cup per day) I sprinkle some on my salads to give them some added crunch after giving up croutons. What else are you eating? Maybe if you told us a sample of a few days worth of menus, we can help you find what is causing your gain! What do you drink? Fill us in and we'll do what we can to help. Hang in there, we are all learning every day! ********* Im starting to hide behind baggy sweaters and sweat pants again and I feel like Im taking steps backwards not getting as healthy on raw as possible. Guest guest
I'd like to learn from this too! I just finished my first week and gained 2 pounds. I did not expect that at all since I lived on cookies in Dec. I ate about half raw in the summer and lost 8 my first week. This time I did so much better so I was expecting good results. No fast food all week, no meat, only raw goat cheese (maybe one ounce), not even 20% cooked foods. I gave up sodas years ago. I do eat raw nuts and wondered if I overdid. About 1/4 cup a day? Guest guest
I drink only water or almond milk. I dont drink much almond milk though. Maybe 1 glass every other week. I use coconut cream for many recipes but only a table spoon. I've been eating raw cheese cake for 3 nights. I figure if it was raw.. no biggie. It does contain 3 cups of cashews though! I eat lots of salad with either corn or olives. I love Extra virgin olive oil. I put Basil on everything and I eat tons of banana's oranges, kiwi, pineapple, cantaloupe and frozen berries. Guest guest
You've hit the nail on the head. Nuts average 70+% fat and are very high in calories, per unit of weight (ounces, grams) and per unit of volume (cup, etc.). Check out the 80/10/10 discussions going on in this group recently .... even today. And I STRONGLY suggest that you set aside that self-defeating idea about not counting calories, not permanently, but long enough to teach yourself what you are doing to yourself. Go to www.nutridiary.com, create a free account for yourself, and use it for week or so. Then you'll begin to get it. Also, if you are consuming lots of salt (including drugs, supplements, etc.), then you could be adding a lot of water weight. Rapid weight gain/loss almost always means water weight, as this is the only form of body weight that typically comes on/off that quickly. Guest guest
Hi Blondie, You need to go to: www.fitday.com It's free! Key in everything you eat each day and I be you will be amazed at the fat % of your diet. Fruit and greens are the mainstay for a healthy raw diet with limited seeds such as hemp on your salads. If you need to lose weight, cut the olive oil to 1 tbsp. a day and dump the nuts and avocado. Buy Doug Graham's book 80-10-10 and read it. There are lots of raw fooders out there and lots of them are on a diet way too high in fats. Good luck, Julie - Blondy rawfood Tuesday, January 09, 2007 11:13 PM [Raw Food] Getting fatter.
