Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I'm only on day 2 of 100% raw and loving it! I'm feeling much higher energy then ever. I've been a vegan for 2.5 years and have not had problems with acne since. However, years ago, as a teen eating SAD, I had horrible acne and still have scars. I'm always hesitant about trying anything on my face. Yesterday I was reading that coconut oil (eating and applying) can help with scars. I've tried aloe in the past with no results. Has anyone had luck diminishing scars with diet and/or topical applications? It's hard to know the truth from surfing the net because so many people are just out to make a buck. I really enjoy this group and I've appreciated all of the insight from those raw food pros here!! Deanna
Guest guest
I (and others) have had luck diminishing scaring with a comfrey ointment. This is good for cuticles and nails as well. I will see if I can find the recipe if you are interested. Pat _____ rawfood [rawfood ] On Behalf Of Deanna Wednesday, January 10, 2007 11:19 AM rawfood [Raw Food] Acne Scars? Guest guest
Lol! Ok Cheryl, here it is. Pat Comfrey Goldenseal Ointment Presented by Mariah Prosper 21 October 2006 This is a first aid, antibiotic topical ointment for burns, cuts and bruises. Comfrey Comfrey causes wounds to heal faster. Use a comfrey leaf on a cut and it aids in coagulation of the blood. Dark green leaves such as comfrey are high in Vitamin K which is responsible for blood coagulation. Goldenseal Use the root as antibiotic, fungal, viral remedy and to help heal infection. It has a bitter taste (similar to absinthe). Basic Recipe 1 part herb 4 parts oil Mariah’s Recipe Uses more herb: 2 parts herbs to 5 parts oil or 5 parts herbs to 5 parts oil Grapeseed Oil: Rich in Vitamin A, C, E – good for skin Castor Oil: It is a thick oil, wound healer and can be used as emollient (castor beans are highly toxic) Canola Oil: fill bottle the rest of the way with canola oil – absorbs quickly into the skin Olive Oil: is soothing to the skin, but it is not recommended for use in this ointment because it goes rancid quickly. Hands, all equipment and work surfaces should be CLEAN before proceeding. Use a ½ gallon Mason or Ball jar that has been sterilized Put the herbs in the jar first: 1. 6 large leaves of fresh comfrey, washed OR 2 ounces of comfrey (dried), and 2. 2 ounces of goldenseal Then the oil 1. ½ cup Grapeseed 2. Less than ½ cup Castor 3. Add Canola to fill the jar After herbs and oil are in the jar, cover the jar loosely and set in a hot water bath on the stovetop. Bring the water to a boil, then lower heat to simmer for at least 1½ hours. Stir occasionally and keep covered during simmer. Next 1. Strain the herbs out of the oil while it is still hot. 2. Add 1 oz. of beeswax (cut into chunks) per 10-16 oz. of oil. 3. Return jar loosely covered to heat and stir occasionally until beeswax is melted. 4. Test consistency by pouring into spoon – put in freezer for a few minutes. If it is too thin, add more beeswax. If too thick, add more oil. 5. Put preservative in hot mixture: Use 1 tbsp per 48 oz. of either Benzoin Tincture, Vodka, or Iodine. 6. Immediately and carefully pour hot mixture into smaller sterilized jars. (The mixture prepared in Mariah’s demonstration was more than enough to fill 30 small jars). 7. Clean the outside of the jars of any spillage and label with the name of the ointment and the date that you made it. A little of the ointment goes a long way. Positive results were reported when the ointment was applied regularly to scaring. It also seems to promote nail growth and heals torn cuticles. _____ rawfood [rawfood ] On Behalf Of enchanteddreams Friday, January 12, 2007 7:27 AM rawfood Re: [Raw Food] Acne Scars?
