Dear Annmarie,

First off, thanks for being willing to share! My name is Heather,

I've been here for a while, but I mostly read posts and comment

when I have a chance. So, I just want to say, don't give up! My

mom and I are going on to 4 years on the HD and I can say that

it's worth it. One thing most people don't know is that we almost

stopped doing the HD about 3-6 months after we first started.

See, there's this stage of uncertainty where you just have to trust

God because in the back of my mind, I thought, " Well, if it doesn't

work out, I can just go back to the SAD. " As time went on, I relied

less and less on that thought process until I didn't want to eat that way

anymore, but I was still unsure of my future with the HD. So, my

mom was a big help to me, and because of her, I would never

go back and am no longer afraid of this way of eating, but rejoicing

in it. Also, we are a family of 3 and my dad doesn't eat this way, so

we do know how hard it can be. Just remember, there are reasons

why you do this that can evaporate when you are hungry!! LOL!

Here are some things my mom and I do:

 

1) Don't give yourself a choice. Redefine what " food " is in your mind.

See, we as a culture are eating a bunch of garbage and are calling it

food. We've been so brainwashed that it's difficult to understand how

it really affects your body and to redefine what real food/nourishment

is! Once your mind has been renewed, you see that you eat, or don't.

Example, you wouldn't eat wood, glass or cardboard (I mean like items

in your house or furniture) because that's not " food. " So, try looking

at SAD " food " the same way.

 

2) Make a list of all the things you experience when you eat something

that isn't good for you and put it all around, in key places where you

tend to struggle the most. Read it when you feel the urge. Also, make a

list

of all the reasons you want to eat better and the positive effects that

has on you, so you're not just fighting from something, but toward

something.

Helps with motivation when your stomach/body is saying more than your

head. At least that's what I do. :D (One more thing, as you go on with

this, write down the benefits you're feeling as well...not just what you

want

to feel.)

 

3) Always keep a cooler handy of good foods when you go out. Try to

make them ones you really enjoy, so they'll have competition with the

smells, making it easier to eat them instead of the food you don't want.

For example, bring your favorite fruit and a yummy nut mixture that you

really enjoy. Your best salad or a yummy date dessert! That way, it

might ward you off from ice cream, dessert or something else. :)

Basically,

whatever your biggest struggle is. Mine was dessert, my mom's was meat.

I enjoy sweet fruits and dates, and she enjoys mushrooms and hearty

soups. :D

 

4) Write a list of all of the good things that you can eat. I mean every

fruit and veggie that you can think of to eat or cook a good HD meal

with, and

have that with you when you shop. Find what you can, and the closer you

stick to the basics, the more money you'll save. Also, you can try

writing out a schedule of what to eat and when. You could say, morning

BarleyMax

and carrot juice. Then fruit...lunch will be salad. Snacks

are:...Dinner is...

That might help with getting through the day and sticking to a budget if

you need to keep spending small.

 

5) The main thing to remember is that you will get through this, and that

it will all be ok. If we start out thinking that we really want this but

aren't

sure we can have it, that makes it more difficult to stick with. As you

go forward,

look at this as a life change, and as you progress you will notice that

you

really will start to feel that way. You will see things differently, the

toxins in

your body will go down and good food will be what you crave. The SAD

will smell good

but be nothing more than a food that doesn't taste as good as it smells

and

doesn't satisfy. Just know this point will come, and it is something you

can

achieve. NOT an impossible goal!!!

 

6) I can't guarantee that your family will change their eating (my dad

hasn't), however, you will be the greatest witness by walking forward no

matter

what comes against you. Your biggest testimony is in the proof! My dad

may

not eat this way but he listens to what we say now and doesn't bring meat

in

the house anymore. He also tries to exercise with us and to make

healthier

choices! About your medicine, give it time and slowly wean. You'll get

there. :)

 

7) Last but not least, you can pray for God to help you to want to want

to do this. God is always with you and he hears your prayers. He

delights in helping

His children and I know he would rejoice at putting a real, lasting,

burning

passion for something He created, in your heart. First and foremost for

Him, but

after Him, He still care about our lives. :) I know He cares about this

and He's

there to help!

 

WOW! Anyway, this got long on me quick, but I hope it helps! Just know

that God is with you, you are getting through and you don't have to

suffer from

pain anymore! God bless you and have a great day!

I started doing the HA diet in December. I did fair. I was good about 50%

of the time. I thought I was doing well on transition. I am on a

medication for Fibromyalgia (so they say) and it makes me think I am

hungry all the time. I stopped taking it at the end of December and did

great

for 5 days without any cheating. Then my fibro came back full blast and I

couldn't handle it. I have 5 children whom I homeschool and can't be out

of commission. So I had to go back on the full dose for several days. (I

was

taking only 1/4 of pill before that.) I had a hard time resisting

cravings

and went back to my SAD diet.

 

I now what to get back on track, but am really struggling. I am back to

1/4 of a pill a day, so I am hoping my ability to refuse SAD diet will

Improve.

My ultimate goal is to stop taking the medication all together. But I

guess I gave up too soon on the medication before. I do well in the

morning but

not so well after noon. I als
