Guest guest
Hi Robin, When I first started raw I didn't buy any books. My first 2 weeks I ate simple. Salads, smoothies, lots of fruit and vegetables with raw dips. I lost weight from that. The biggest set back was eating raw more complex. I introduced fatty foods into my diet and I really wish I kept it simple. I already owned a $30 blender (Not that great for ice) and I went to Wal-Mart and bought a $7.49 food processor but it's only big enough to do 1 cup of anything at a time LOL. It works for me. My advice is keep it simple. If a banana gets boring to eat, make a fruit salad with banana's pears and oranges. Keep it alive by trying different things but even just a piece of fruit I find simply delicious!!! The items I would limit are: Fatty fruits like avacado and nuts and seeds like Almonds, cashews, raisins and sun flower seeds. You will learn slowly but the reason why I limit them is because I tend to use to often and I gained 10 lbs in a month Good luck and welcome to Raw!! Guest guest
Hi Jenny! Since I am new as well, I was interested in what you wrote to Robin about keeping it simple. Good advice, I think. But I am curious to understand why you would gain weight eating the avocado and nuts, as you mentioned? When you began this way of eating, were you battling a weight problem, or did you acquire one from what you were eating? I think I am going to keep it simple as much as I can, at least for now. Mobility is an issue for me, so simple is much easier for me to handle for now. I am just trying to sort out for myself what I am going to do to make this all work for me. Thanks for whatever you feel like sharing! Connie The items I would limit are: Fatty fruits like avacado and nuts and seeds like Almonds, cashews, raisins and sun flower seeds. Guest guest
Well I'm not fat. I weigh about 138 pounds. I'm 5'6. I was in my high 120's the beginning of dec and now Im close to 140's because I used many cashews, almonds, raisins, coconut cream and coconut. I couldnt believe I had gained 10 pounds The frustrating part was I have always been someone who dresses nice and shows skin, and that 10 pounds made such a difference in my clothing. Some shirts are too tight on me. I want to loose the 10 and then some. I have been hiding in my spouses winter shirts the last 3 weeks Only you know what your body is like. Many people can eat fatty foods on raw and not gain... in fact they loose weight but not me lol.. nu nu nu. I have always been a crappy eater. lots of mc donalds. I dunno why raw hasn't changed that significantly considering my old diet. Connie <wyatt4ever wrote: Hi Jenny! Guest guest
Thank you very much for sharing that perspective with me. I will keep it in mind, because I would like to eat a little more fat than what it looks like the diet is all about for the weight loss bit. (like olive oil in salad) I will try things out a bit at a time and see what is working and what is not. It is true that our bodies all work a little differently or have difficulties about certain things when it comes to dieting. I feel like I am embarking on this big adventure and I will have much to explore and see where it all leads me! I am getting excited about it all. Connie Well I'm not fat. I weigh about 138 pounds. Guest guest
Robin: If you are serious about this transition to raw foods and want to do it right, I would highly recommend Gabriel Cousens work, Brenda Cobb's work or Jim Carey's ChiDiet Workbook and DVD series. Truly, its best to do this well rather than not. Have been raw for ten years and have worked with the best. Believe me there is a right and wrong here. You want to bring health and well-being, not illnesses.
