Guest guest
Hi guys. My 14 month old has been raw since 10 months and was exclusively breastfed up until then. I have just weaned him, but prior to that he got really sick twice. I am talking, running nose, lethargic, temperature and now, green gunk coming from both the nose and eyes!!! What is going on? He eats/drinks green smoothies normally in the morning, if not, just pureed fruit, usually one or occaisionally two fruits. Sometimes I add soaked sunflower seeds, almonds to his fruit. At night, he may have pureed carrot, cucumber or just a little fruit with our family's raw salad. He drinks water, but I may need to up the intake. I don't give him raw grains etc. Not too sure about preparing these. I am getting a little concerned and my mother is very concerned as she is a believer that if one is sick, they are lacking, or having too much of something. She has been 100% raw for 5 months, but she is not too sure about a baby being 100%. This is the way I want to go, but why would I be getting opposition with his health at the moment. I am 80% raw most of the time, if not, more, even when I was breastfeeding. I figured when I had a few days of illness (detoxing), he may have got if from my milk, but this last bout doesnt add up as he wasnt on me when he got sick. Thanks in advance guys Hinarera
Guest guest
Hi Hinarera, Did you ever check out these links? http://health.PathOfHealth/ www.livingmom.net (raw mom & midwife) I feel for your little guy... I know this is a big shift from what we're taught in our mainstream culture, but have you considered looking at it from the point of view of nature? What would you and your baby do in nature, without doctors telling you what nutrients you need, and without machines to puree things? If you NEED to blend it for baby, it's probably difficult for him to digest. (Not that you can't use a blender--I like my smoothies, but I do consider what I would and wouldn't be able to eat without my blender.) I hope he's feeling better soon. Guest guest
P.S. Hinarera, Are you very familiar with food combining? That would be a great one to do a little research on. The fruit and nut combos would be especially difficult (in addition to nuts being difficult all on their own). Certain fruits don't mix well together, etc. Especially for a baby, I think it would be really important. Best wishes, Laurie
Guest guest
All babies get sick. No matter what anyone else says. It's normal. If you think your baby gets the cold too often maybe its an immune system thing. It's important even while raw that your baby has all their needles up to date. Its necessary especially for when they go to school. They don't to care if were raw or not. Those are just the basics by law. There are foods you can give your baby that help build immunity to colds. They are: Garlic (Not sure how baby will take to that one lol) CarrotsYogurt (But it's not raw, not sure why I'm listing this lol) Mushrooms Any orange vegetable like carrots (mentioned) and sweet potato's. Beans ( because they have zinc) Brazil nuts Sunflower seeds Omega 3 foods like flax seed. Good luck!
Guest guest
My goodness, it's a BABY, not a garbage scowl. It is NOT normal for babies to get sick, nor for humans at any age. And the foods suggested below are difficult to digest or downright poisons to adults, heaven help the baby that would be forced to ingest them. Never ever feed a baby garlic or mushrooms or nuts and seeds. Their digestive system does' even begin to have the resources to cope effectively with such things. And the more research I see on vaccinations, the more I know that every single one of them is a serious poison. These should be inflicted upon no living creature, human or otherwise, at any age. Sorry for the strong tone, but of such advice is great misery made, and I would not wish that upon anyone. Guest guest
Actually by law you can go in when (or if) you choose public education and sign a waver at the health department saying it is against your personal religious belief to get immunizations and they can do nothing about it, so don't let it cause you fear. My wonderful raw babies (at the time) went through Whooping cough when my youngest was only 3 months old. We all came through it just fine. Even better faster than those in the area who went though with a doctors suppervision. However, what they did was right for them, they had a child that went into convultions if it had a temp over 101. I learned to make my own herbal remedies and yes I learned to make an old fashioned mustard plaster. If you want to go natural you do have some studying to do. Guest guest
Now for the dietary situation. Babies do not like garlic it burns their little mouths. If they need it you can put on a pair of socks crush garlic and rub on the soles of the socks and put on another pair of socks. This worked for me when mine had pnemonia. If you give them sunflower seeds you blend 1/4 C raw seeds with 1 C good water then strain. They drink the milk. For more Iron also add in 1/4 C raw sesame seeds to the seed milk. My sweety grew up with this for formula when I could no longer nurse him and he is my healthiest. Stay away from the mushrooms as they promote the wrong type of yeast growth in the system they are a fungus. Any fresh vegitable juices, such as carrots + greens work wonderful, beets taste great. This is the only way you should ever try to get a baby to take garlic or onion (keep it in very low doses) Stay away from the cabage family unless they are at least a year since it is difficult for many to digest. Here is a recipe that worked for me when my children had whooping cough and has worke awesome for whenever we felt somthing coming on as is it a great immune system builder and babies love the taste. (We call it Slime because it looks like something Slimer from the Ghost Busters would have left behind - greenish yellow and slimy) Slime 1/4 C Slippery Elm powder 1/8 C each of Echenacia,Goldenseal powders 2 Tbl. lobelia powder Cheyene pepper, lemon juice, honey to taste And as much water as it takes to make it pourable. This usually makes about a quart and a half. I usually use muscle testing on myself in behalf of whoever is sick in order to get the ingredients just right for them. Usually given as a Tablespoon (2 for adults) 3 times a day. and just for the laws sake remember to consult a physician before taking any herbal preperations or changing your diet. Wether you choose the greatest healer of all time for your physician is up to you. In Peace Donna
Guest guest
You mentioned that you were about 80% raw when you breastfed him and now he is 100% raw. My guess is that he is simply detoxing the 20% cooked that he received through your milk. None of the symptoms you mention seem serious, although I know it is hard to have sick babies, I am a Mom myself. I would hang in there and enjoy the housecleaning his perfect little amazing body is doing. Listen to you instincts though, if something feels like it's really wrong, then get some help!
