Guest guest
Today I tried to go 100% raw but it didn't happen.. again. I'm glad I'm not too frustrated over it but I have this hunger to eat after 9 pm. So far I had a bowl of hummus with 16 rice crackers and 1/2 can of black olives. What do you do to fight off night snacking? Or what would you choose to eat if anything at all.
Guest guest
Hi, There are two primary possibilities here: you are WAY undereating something you need, and your system really does want SOMETHING; or you are running into some significant emotional growth opportunity and just not yet seeing it clearly So let's explore both avenues at the same time. 1. I suggest that you use Nutridiary or FitDay and monitor your total caloric intake and your CPF (carb-protein-fat) mix/ratio for a few days, both before and after this snack? (Don't change anything during those days, you'll only need a few days to see what is happening.) Then bring the results back into the group for further discussion. 2. At the same time ... each time you begin to have these cravings, try and focus your attention backward in time a few minutes, try and remember and picture/feel whatever was going on inside you during the minutes / short time period right before the cravings erupted in your head. Guest guest
Blondy, If I might make a suggestion about transistion snacking & related stuff. Early on I just couldn't figure out what to eat sometimes like while out in a restaraunt w/my brother, it was a mexican place and I ate like 3-4 bowls of salsa or pico de gio and a small bowl maybe 1/2 c of guacamole and I was still hungry - I ate only 10 corn chips, now I wouldn't do that today but it got me through that event. A couple days later we were back at the same restaraunt and I realized that they had a salad that worked so I ordered that instead and had them bring me pico de gio without the onions - 3 bowls of it to go on the green salad. My point is aim to make healthier choices each time something gets ackward (sp?). After about 2 weeks of living in transition, which was similar to the stories above. I was 100% RawVegan - although this may seem unusual, I wasn't eating a typical SAD (Standard American Diet) at the time, I had cut out dairy & most meat w/the exception of occasional fish/shrimp and processed foods months before. I would advise others, based on my experience, to begin their food intake with fruit each day and if they have a craving or ackward food moment - to stop and notice the thoughts (as Elchanan says) and then to make a healthier choice than you made yesterday as to what to eat (and Whole, Ripe, Raw Fruits & Vegies are the healthiest). I've been using Nutridiary for 5-6 weeks now and I am sooooo glad I am. I began just being honest about what I ate and recording everything everyday, my intention was to only do that for a couple of weeks because I thought I was eating pretty healthily (hmm - word choice?). Anyway, I'm still using it every day BECAUSE I noticed some patterns that I wanted to change. After 3 weeks I could clearly see (the reports are graphs) patterns of 1. low caloric intake 2. every 6 days I was eating high(er) fats and 3. As I kept notes, those higher fat days I was also feeling stuff - different from the rest of the world, frustrated, alone, sometimes lonely and I WANTED (not craved and not needed) REGULAR food. I persisted b/c I'm determined and I have lost a considerable amount of weight which keeps me motivated. I chose instead to eat a healthy food to satisfy the feelings/emotions, which kept me on my path as I worked throught the issues. So I created successful 'turtle steps' (those are slow motion baby steps) along my way. Then I began to redirect my eating patterns to fall more in line with healthier information I had researched & gained--POH, 80/10/10 etc. I have increased my intake of sweet fruits - another mental shift for me b/c I had been told that 'fat people can only eat 1 banana a week' or 'bananas will make you gain weight' and with my income bananas are one of the least expensive and most available sources of dense sweet fruit calories. I feel much more satisfied and I am no longer experiencing the every 6 days higher fat situation. My Nutridiary chart is begining to even out with a more consistant levels of fat, carbs & protiens which is what I monitor mostly. My caloric intake is higher and is more consistant as well. I wondered if some of these changes would slow the disposal of unwanted wieght, I am happy to be able to tell you that I have not experienced any changes. Though am not setting a specific goal, I am fairly confident that my size will even out around 145-150# which is another 20ish pounds from where I am today -- and as you may have read that's a long way from the 300#s of a few years ago. Success is out there, it is attainable. I would suggest Dr. Graham's 80/10/10 book, Elchanan's posts which are very clear and I believe, healthy information, another guide which was helpful to me was the book The Raw Life as Paul Nison gave some easy to read cute steps along the way and was backed up with long time RF interviews. I have made both my pictures & a blog available on 360 if you are interested. Simply, Lesa rawfood , Blondy <trinity082482 wrote: > > Today I tried to go 100% raw but it didn't happen.. again. Guest guest
Lesa - I like going for Mexican when people want to eat out. I order romaine leaves, a side of pico de galleo and a side of guacamole. Smear guac on the leaf, fill with salsa and roll for my own burritos! My favorite restaurant now knows to just bring that for me. Sometimes I put celery sticks in my pocket to use as " chips " for the before the meal snacking so I won't eat the chips on the table. Can't say I'm always strong and don't have a few chips, but that is dangerous territory for me. I can't stop at a few! Shari
Guest guest
Good tips Lesa. Thanks for sharing your experience with me. I cant explain my relationship with food. What would an addict feel without their next dose of drugs? Crazy? Helpless? Restless? Thats me Lesa <ljbn wrote: Blondy, If I might make a suggestion about transistion snacking & related stuff. Guest guest
Blondy - restless, irritable, and discontented is how an addict feels. Shari
