Guest guest
Any thoughts on this? I bought some sundried tomatoes and these had sulfur dioxide. As long as it wasn't animal I told myself. So what are the thoughts on this please? Thanks, Charlane

Guest guest
And a double YUCK from me! They only put that crap on there to preserve the looks of the food. Things tend to turn brown when dried, but with sd they stay red or yellow or orange. I prefer my veg and fruit with an ugly color if I need to have dried. Guest guest
Charlane, Sulfur dioxide is used as a preservative on your tomatoes. Since I have a sulfa allergy, I find I need to avoid as much sulf(insert ending here) as possible and I do not consider preservatives raw food. The best would be to make your own sundried and/or dehydrated tomatoes with no chemical preservatives. Whether or not it is animal based should not really be the issue (unless you are an animal rights person - which really has nothing to do with RF), but rather how much toxic material you want to put into your body and if you consider preservatives RF. Any thoughts on this? I bought some sundried tomatoes and these had sulfur dioxide. As long as it wasn't animal I told myself. So what are the thoughts on this please? Guest guest
To add just a little ... fruits are sulfured to prevent mold growth. The color of the fruit typically changes quite a bit, as does the texture of the skin. Sulfur is acid-forming, as in sulfuric acid. Although we do need some sulfur, we get plenty without adding it in this manner. Excess acid leads to leaching of alkaline minerals from the body, etc. So better without the sulfur ... but it's not the end of the world, either, as when that's the only choice in town. In other words, there is optimal, then there is " everything in perspective " . Sulfured fruit is not optimal by any means, and I also have never heard of anyone achieving a diagnosis due to eating sulfured fruit upon occasion.
