Guest guest
Hi...I just received RAW by Juliano as a gift and I'm excited to dive in and try some of these. The recipes look amazing, but some of them have a long, long list of ingredients or seem to take a lot of time. Does anyone else have this book? Are there recipes you would recommend that I try? Or, are there ones not to bother with? Thanks! Kandace
Guest guest
My favorite recipe is the Cole Slaw on page 42. Very easy and very good! I leave out the cumin seeds though... Guest guest
I have heard Juliano's recipes are wonderful, but can be complicated. He is an artist of raw food, and remember he cooks in a restaurant setting. This is probably why I have never gotten his book! But I am sure the recipes are good ones- just read them first to be sure you want to do them! I would definitely try his restaurant though, if I had the chance. A good raw cook book I have gotten recently and can recommend is " Healthful Cuisine " by Chef Kelly Serbonich and Ann Marie Clement of the Hippocrates Institute. It is a good basic book as well as having some more complicated dishes in it. Plus, Kelly is a trained chef and really knows her stuff when it comes to food prep. I like it more than any other book I have found- but granted I have not seen them all! Terry
Guest guest
It depends on how much you enjoy gourmet uncooking! If you love being in the kitchen and preparing food, go for it! I enjoy it quite a bit, but I still haven't had the patience/time to try his recipes! It seems almost all the recipes I am tempted to try have some ingredient that requires a whole other recipe to make just for that one ingredient! I have 2 young kids and they prefer simpler foods. We ate at Julianno's once in L.A. and we kept ordering one thing after another for the kids hoping we'd find something they'd like -we loved it all!- and I finally ordered the Fettuccine Alfredo because I " knew " they'd eat that as I'd made it for them before quite a few times...when it came they didn't care much for it, they said they liked mine better (mine is very plain, his was full of delicious herbs and spices!) Anyway, a friend of mine tried his " meatloaf " once (page 138) and let me try it, it was incredible! If I had more time I'd definately try his recipes, but for now... Let us know if you try them and how they turn out! Guest guest
Hey Kandace! Love your site! about the Juliano book-- if you have an afternoon or something to prepare a dish, have fun! Otherwise, by me, Juliano's recipe is just an appetizer to read before I go in the kitchen and make my quickie dinner (max: maybe 10-15 minutes pulling it together/chopping/etc, then maybe an hour of marinating. If I am lucky and I have some leftovers, or if I have something dehydrated, well..1 minute to get out the dishes and dish it up....or the days when I just grab a grapefruit or an avocado) I have a couple of the designer books... I read them for ideas that I might be able to convert into EASY. I am all about EASY. I have made a couple of 1-2 hour prep dishes, but I will probably never do that again. I have better things to do with my time. Guest guest
Hi Margaret, > Love your site! Thanks so much! We've just been having a blast with Gone Raw and learning about raw food techniques while we're at it. > I am all about EASY. Definitely! Every once in a while, I'll attempt a more complicated recipe. However, I'd like the assurance that others have tried it and enjoyed it before making it (others who are creating in a home kitchen, that is). Without that, I'm pretty hesitant to dive into a complicated recipe. Along these lines, my favorite quick recipe these days is one created by Rhio - Herb Encrusted Mushroom Steak (she was kind enough to give us permission to share it on our site). Not only is it really good, but it is gorgeous as well. http://goneraw.com/recipes/125 Cheers, Kandace
