Guest guest
I have suffered many years with various digestive disorders. Crohn's disease, IBS, and spastic colon to name a few. I still have some scar tissue in my intestinal walls from all of the trauma and pain I've endured. The raw vegan diet has pretty much cured me of all those ailments, but unfortunately the last 6 months have been absolute hell! I have seemed to return to all of the symptoms I thought had been gone forever! Only this time, they're worse! I had to go on a business trip this weekend, so I packed all of my food ahead of time...raw nuts, dried fruit, raw energy bars, enzyme pills, bananas, etc...the only thing I ate out was a side salad and some lightly steamed vegetables. Well when I got on the plane I had the worst attack I've ever had! I was doubled over in pain...when I finally got home, my abdomen was so distended it looked as if I was 6 mos. pregnant, no lie! I am still in so much pain and the gas, bloating, nausua, and diarrhea are not going away. Why the recurrance of my disease? Especially after all this time? I am miserable and tempted to go to my old G.I. doctor. Has anyone ever experience an old ailment " come back to haunt them " such as this? Any feedback would be appreciated! Guest guest
I find that smoothies help heal. This one is supposed to help: 1/2 cup canned mandarin orange segments, drained 1 banana 1/3 cup canned or fresh pineapple, cut into chunks 1 cup Keifr 5 ice cubes I read that Keifr is living so that it falls under the raw category. Unsure though.

Guest guest
Hi, I don't have time to read this whole thread, but there is one solution to intestinal upset: stop eating, period. Let your system process what's in there. ANYTHING you add to your system will just add more work and slow down your system's process. To think otherwise is simply incorrect. Guest guest
I don't know about the kefir (it may be live, but it's from cows), but the canned oranges and canned (at least they say OR fresh this time) pineapple is a tipoff that it might not be the kind of smoothie a raw food person wants. But I second Elchanan's recommendation to fast. Let the body heal itself. Guest guest
Fellow shoe-lover/Rawjules, I had chrones/IBS/colon stuff years ago. I've only been 100% Raw for the past year - I was in verious stages of raw over the past 30 years. My son and daughter who were raised very healthy w/lots of fruits & vegies & hardly ever a doctor - now are grown in their 20's and eating SAD diets. They both have been diagnosed with Chrones & struggle but aren't ready to listen to Mom's wierd dietary ideas --- I tell you this so you will understand that I care and am very close to this subject... One thing that I noticed about your post was that you packed all these raw food items for a trip that included nuts/dried fruits/processed raw bars etc. I have found that bananas and other fruits are our best friends, if we strive for a lower fat diet and get most of our caloric calories from bananas (think Dr. Doug Graham's 80/10/10) we do very well. I am not a doctor or health professional - so take what you need and leave the rest. From personal experience the salads and steamed vegies (which usually include brocc/cauliflower or mixed vegies) give us more probs. I try to get the majority of my caloric needs taken care of with bananas on most days by having them either plain & peeled or in a smoothie made with water for breakfast/1st meal of day and at lunch/2nd meal mixed with romaine or celery in either a smoothie or as 'sandwiches'. Dinner time or my late meal begins w/a banana smoothie while I'm preparing the rest which now is usually a tomato/tangerine soup & a salad of romaine w/tangerines/oranges or grapes and sometimes chopped up banana --- I can now eat many more fruits/vegies than when I began and if you like you could perhaps coach with someone more pro like Dr. Graham, I understand he's not too expensive. I have heard that his most common program begins with eating mostly bananas to calm and heal the system then reintroduces other fruits/vegies. I hope that you feel much better and continue on to reach for your personal goal of health. If I can help in any other way, feel free to contact me Simply, Lesa rawfood , " shoe_lover26 " <shoe_lover26 wrote: > > I have suffered many years with various digestive disorders. Guest guest
Rawjules, Welcome to my world! I have experience a lot of the same problems in the past. I would lay off on the fruits and nuts for now (especially bananas they create more gasses), try to eat a lot of cultured veggies, and take probiotics. Mix about 1/4 teaspoon of celtic sea salt with a pinch of baking soda (aluminum free of course) in water. This will help flush the toxins out of your body. Vitamin C will also help flush things out. L-Glutamine is generally recommended for healing of the intestines. Oh yea, ginger tea with pepper is also a good remedy. This page has some valuble information: http://www.bodyecology.com/06/12/14/born_with_leaky_gut.php I hope you feel well soon. rawfood , " shoe_lover26 " <shoe_lover26 wrote: > > I have suffered many years with various digestive disorders. Guest guest
I just read this post and feel a little confused about the bananas. I have always loved them but found that they were only contributing to my problems. The high sugar content feeds fungus like candida that tends to thrive in disturbed intestines. I guess it all depends on your personal constitution. rawfood , " Lesa " <ljbn wrote: > > Fellow shoe-lover/Rawjules, > > I had chrones/IBS/colon stuff years ago. Guest guest
Hi Rawjules I totaly understand the problem, have been suffering from it for years. I would surgest to check out David Kleins website: http://www.colitis-crohns.com/ To many nuts can irritate the colon, dried fruits the same. Maby try some green smoothes: http://www.rawfamily.com/articles/odetogreen.pdf with not to sweet fruits, and change to eat only fresh stuff for a while. Probiotics and fermentet vegies is good too. Aloe vera juice(pure) or Slippery elm is really soothing for the intestine too. rawfood , " shoe_lover26 " <shoe_lover26 wrote: > > I have suffered many years with various digestive disorders. Guest guest
Do you think maybe you may have Diverticulitis? Nuts and certain vegetables such as corn can cause attacks which are extremely painful. I have a few friends who have this. > " blomster_fe " <shanti >rawfood >rawfood >[Raw Food] Re: Painful intestines!!! >Wed, 31 Jan 2007 15:21:52 -0000 > >Hi Rawjules > >I totaly understand the problem, have been suffering from it for >years. > >I would surgest to check out David Kleins website: >http://www.colitis-crohns.com/ > >To many nuts can irritate the colon, dried fruits the same.
