Guest guest
Hey all... In regards to this post, which nailed on the head a question that has been rolling through my mind lately: See after this post to read my actual question. 2. Find ONE ... yes ONE ... teacher whom you trust, and learn from that person, period. Now ask yourself one, simple question: Do you wish to succeed with your health at the level of a professional? Most RFs experience endless confusion. This confusion is of their own creation, the result of the way in which they choose to learn. Seeking out 50 conflicting opinions will get you exactly two results: confusion, followed by relative paralysis. Ok..here is my question. I have been reading this site for over a year now. I have a long history of medical and health problems. I have no thyroid, I have graves disease and the drs (bastards that they are) advised me during a desperate state, to radioactively destroy my thyroid. This was almost 4 years ago. Since then, I have gained a horrible amount of weight, I cant stand to look in the mirror and I just do not know what to do anymore, I spend all day obsessing about my weight and health. There are times I cant even walk a flight of stairs with out being exhausted. I was doing yoga, until I somehow hurt my arm and can barely move it to exercise, I went to a doctor, had Xrays taken and they say there is nothing wrong with it. Its been 4 months and I can still hardly move it with out pain. My life has become an obsessive health related nightmare. I don't know what to believe anymore, or who to turn to or what to do. How do I find out what my body wants or needs? Who do I go to? Doctors seem like quacks, they just say, take a pill and come back and see me in 4 weeks....I have tried all the diets, and SPECIAL foods, and even did the master cleanser for 6 days! The only time I had any success was when I had a HUGE fruit smoothie in the morning and afternoon, with a salad or other raw dish for dinner. And it was a very little success, I only lost 15 pounds over a 3 month period. Then I started getting a sick shaky feeling throughout the day So everyone tells me I am eating too much fruit, then another tells me I should avoid nuts and fatty avocados. Then another person tells me I should do the 811 diet, then the rave diet, then 100% raw, then my doctor tells me my stomach pains are due to too much roughage. Then I am told I have a Candida problem. So here is my question. How do we know what to believe anymore? I am beyond confused. I cant seem to find something that works for me. I have tried one " plan or diet " after another, I read and listen to the advice and try to learn from what everyone else has been through. Cleanse or not to cleanse Cook or not to cook Eat or don't eat and just drink water or lemonade with maple syrup protein or no protein. Please know that I am not trying to get everyone all riled up, I have just become so confused. My body is a mess, I cant seem to figure out what it wants, I am becoming more and more frustrated, and depressed. I have been to doctors, health care specialists and read more books and advice than I can stand. I know there is NO ONE answer that works for everyone, but my head is spinning and I have reached the end of my fight.. I search for answers only to end up more confused and frustrated. All I want is my health and life back. Is there a test I can run to find out what is wrong with my body? Is there a type of doctor or health care specialist I should look for who can run a full system diagnosis on me? I just want to cry sometimes and I am open to any thing. If this was happening to you, what would you do? Any questions? Get answers on any topic at Answers. Try it now.
Guest guest
Hello there, I'm so sorry you are suffering so much. I completely understand your pain and desperation. A few years ago I was there myself with fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, depression, anxiety, obesity and a few other conditions. Doctors and several different alternative care providers all gave me different, conflicting advice and cost me thousands and thousands of dollars and I kept on getting sicker and sicker. The only thing that saved me was raw food. Raw made the most sense to me. Eat food in it's most natural, least processed state. Now, lets say that you can get to the point where you agree that raw food is the direction you need to be going in. There are essentially three different camps in the raw food movement. You've got your " eat everything you want as long as its raw " camp, the " lots of veggies and fats, fruits are bad for you camp " and the " eat lots of fruit and very little fat camp " . In deciding among which one to follow you can either do research or try them all yourself. If you decide to try them all I suggest giving each approach at least a year to see how you feel considering that detoxing might interfere with you really being able to guage how that particular program is effecting you. I will tell you that all the research I've done, which is a lot, points to the high fruit and low fat approach. Our bodies simply aren't meant to operate well on a high fat diet (which most raw food diets are). Our bodies run on glucose. Besides that the high fruit, low fat diet has been the one which has been the easiest for me to follow, it is very satisfying to me and I feel awesome on it. I hope you feel better soon! Wishing you all the best! Guest guest
I can only tell you what my experience has been and let you decide if this would help you. I, too, had my thyroid wiped out at the age of 27. I am now 62. Weight has been a problem all my life. Finally I switched back from the synthetic thyroid to the armour thyroid and that helped a little. Simple low-fat raw is the only thing that has ever changed my weight, my energy, my physical and mental health. After many years, I realized that I was the only one who was going to make me better. Simple low-fat raw means exactly that. No recipes, no nuts, no oil (other than hemp seeds, hemp protein powder and the occasional hemp oil) no avocado, no other seeds. Put all those raw food recipe books away for now because they are not for fat or obese people. We do not handle fat like thin or mildly overweight people. We will not lose the weight and regain our health on high-fat raw. I have lost 32 pounds in less than 90 days and I feel wonderful. I still have 30-some pounds to go but I'm no longer in a big hurry because my life has changed so dramatically. This is my second time around on raw and the first time, I ate high-fat raw and was unable to lose the last thirty pounds. Foolishly, I went back to S.A.D. and regained all the weight and more. I know that I will always eat mostly raw and only time will tell what fats (nuts, oil, avocados, etc.) if any, I will be able to add back without regaining the weight. I can tell you that I will never regain this weight again because I would rather be thin and healthy more than anything else in the world. I am a member of the RawFood Boot Camp where I am held accountable and receive and give all the support that is needed to make this life style work for me and my other team mates. After reaching goal weight sometime this year, I will join the maintenance team and slowly learn what other foods can be part of my life. What could be better than this? In less than 90 days . . I've improved my health drastically, built my stamina to the point that I excercise at least 1 hour every day 7 days a week(no excuses), lost 32 pounds, look 100% better - and all I had to do was to eat raw fruits and vegetables every day! Green smoothies are the main-stay of my day and I carry my bottles of smoothies everywhere I go. If you are interested in finding out more - go to www.rawbootcamp.com Good luck with your decisions about improving your health and regaining your life. Guest guest
Hi Dobby, Not sure if this will help, but what finally made sense to me was to look at nature. Everyone agrees that " natural " and " whole " foods are the best, but then they also want to cook them, add in other things (often lots of it!), or try to replicate those with supplements, etc. I just always had an inner question about what we are " meant " to eat, what we are designed for. It seemed that would clear up all my confusion. How could it be so complicated? How could it be necessary to be up on all the latest studies and go buy all the various supplements and remedies in order to be healthy? It was a long road, but when I found the ideas of Natural Hygiene, it all made sense. There's really no question that can't be answered by learning these principles of health. They are nature's laws. What would we do if we were in nature? What do wild animals do? You will know when you have found the answer. Or at least when things start to make sense. But you do have to learn to trust yourself a little more and question all the " experts, " which it sounds like you are starting to do. I would highly recommend looking into Natural Hygiene if you haven't already. It's a weird-sounding name, but it just basically means looking at nature to determine how to live healthfully. And also how the body cleanses and heals itself when we remove the obstacles (bad food, etc.) and provide better conditions. A few resources: www.rawfood-explained.com www.rawschool.com http://health.PathOfHealth/ (discussion group led by the person who posted what you liked about " find one teacher " ) http://health.Rawschool/ www.dyingtogetwell.com Dr. Doug Graham's book, " The 80/10/10 Diet " and/or his private consultations (www.foodnsport.com) BTW, it sounds like you were on the right track but got scared by the sick, shaky feeling. It could have been your body started to cleanse and heal, which can be felt as symptoms like that. I don't have the knowledge to say what effect your thyroid issue will have in healing, but you will reach the highest level of health by following the principles of NH. I hope you can find the help you need. Best wishes, Laurie
Guest guest
Great response Laurie!!! I completely agree. I also feel the best on a very simple, high fruit low fat approach. I haven't taken a supplement in years. I just wanted to add that the correct website address for the raw food explained website is www.rawfoodexplained.com.
