Guest guest
I received the following answer to my questions after reading Dobby's post: Please Help.THANK YOU ALL Posted by: " Dobby the house elf " dobeythehouseelf dobeythehouseelf Mon Feb 5, 2007 10:01 am (PST) Hi Kim, To help you respond to this idea that bananas are a high-fat food, here is current nutritional data about bananas. Source: The 80/10/10 Success Guide, by Laurie Masters (presently in preparation for publication later this year), using data from the USDA Nutrient Database, Release 19 (the current release). 1 medium banana = about 118 gm, about 7.5 " long +/- a few tenths. Nutrient data, per 100 gm 89 calories 75 gm water 3 gm fiber (dietary, or soluble) 22.8 gm carbohydrate (93% of calories) 1.1 gm protein (4% of calories) 0.3 gm fat (3% of calories) So bananas are a low-fat fruit and a low-fat food! Regarding the caloric content of bananas, it is correct to say that bananas are relatively higher in calories than most other fruits . And this is precisely why we WOULD consider making them central in our diet. With most other fruits, one would need to eat even MORE bites ... and they tend to cost more ... and they're not available year-round. Sweet fruits comprise the foundation of a successful, lifelong, high water-content, low-fat, low-protein diet. Sweet fruits include bananas, figs, dates, persimmons, melons, generally apricots and many grapes. Sweetness and acidity are high volatile with respect to growing conditions and premature harvesting. Those who attempt such a program based primarily upon acid and subacid fruits invariably run into many problems, which is where the " debunking " stories arise. The stories are often correct ... people have created for themselves a program quite different than what Doug Graham, Tim Trader, Laurie Masters, Dave Klein, and various others (myself as well) teach, then they experience unfortunate results, then they blame the program they never did!!! Build your based upon sweet fruits, then add lots of tender greens (lettuces, shoots). Supplement with subacid, acid, and nonsweet (veggie) fruits, and you'll succeed with flying colors, over time. This distinction about sweet fruits is a key success factor ... a requirement for long-term success. Best, Elchanan
