Guest guest
Hello, I was wondering if someone can tell me good sources of calcium that I can give my 18 month old. He loves almond butter and eats alot of fruits. However, he can't really chew that well to eat greens. Any ideas? He is still breastfeeding but as he begins to wean I would like to know he is getting enough calcium. Thanks , Christina Can you call your vitamin AMAZING! I can! Guest guest
If he is still breastfeeding then his primary source of most things is you. In other words, YOUR diet and lifestyle are driving HIS nutrition. Why the rush to wean? He can be entirely or predominantly breast fed into the twos and even the threes. Guest guest
Hi Christina, As a student of Gabriel Cousens, we are taught that sesame seeds are a great source of calcium. It's great to make mylk with fresh sesame seeds or tahini (sesame butter). But, I am not throughly educated in appropriate nutrition for small children and therefore do not know if nuts and seeds are to be given at 18 months. My feelingss jive with what Elchanan posted. You can eat the tahini, for sure, tho. Blessings! Guest guest
The update on coral calcium in the Cousins/Wolfe camp (of course some of us wander from camp to camp... listen to your heart): Gabriel, several months ago, discontinued prescribing all supplements containing coral calcium due to the risk of coral and nano-bacteria growth in the body. Wolfe is erring on the of caution, too. He also other than recommends the ingestion of coral calcium (as of June 2006 Master's Intensive). Please, I do not intend this to sound argumentative to the below poster. I feel the need to mention this opposing view point for educational purposes only. Thank you, Shawna Happy Love Day to ALL! Guest guest
I use Floradix Calcium Magnesium. It's a liquid so you don't have the absorption issues you get with some calcium supplements. I don't know how appropriate it would be for a young child -- don't have kids. But you can get a good bit of calcium from veggies like broccoli, which can be juiced or pureed in a green smoothie. rawfood , " Shawna Stursa " <shawnalovesgod wrote: > > The update on coral calcium in the Cousins/Wolfe camp (of course some of us > wander from camp to camp... listen to your heart): Gabriel, several months > ago, discontinued prescribing all supplements containing coral calcium due > to the risk of coral and nano-bacteria growth in the body. Guest guest
Hi Christina, Shawna, and all, Sorry this is delayed, I moved and put on a big event during the past 10 days. Anyway ... The ideal sources of calcium are green leaves and various fruits. To be usable in our bodies, calcium (and electrolytic minerals in general) must be in their ionic (atomic) form, in solution in water. It seems rather obvious that, since nuts and seeds contain virtually no water ( a little, yes), the cannot be good sources of USABLE calcium and other minerals. At 18 months, the best source of all nutrients is breast milk, if the child is still being substantially breast fed. Therefore the mother's diet drives the child's nutrition. Nuts and seeds are not really digestible at this age to any great degree.
