More than 240 cats from the Frazer no-kill shelter are living in a Clarion County facility while the Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals waits for their legal transfer. Lin Marie, the owner of defunct animal sanctuary, pleaded guilty last week to 12 animal cruelty charges, which spared her almost 600 animal cruelty and other charges. Marie also was known as Linda Bruno. During a March 2008 raid on the Tiger Ranch on Miller Drive, officials found 55 dead cats on the property, 12 others that had to be euthanized and hundreds of animal bones. They took more than 600 cats after the raid. PSPCA spokeswoman Gail Luciani said the organization is waiting for paperwork to legally claim the cats before launching a Web site advertising the cats for adoption. "We fully intend to find homes for these cats," she said. "We're hoping for the paperwork early this week." Matt Collins, one of Marie's attorneys, said the paperwork in question was a forfeiture order from the district attorney. It won't involve any action by Marie. "Rarely will a defendant 'help' with a forfeiture order," he said. "The PSPCA is basically waiting for a 'title transfer.'" An SPCA spokesperson confirmed that cat owners who can prove they own a particular cat from Tiger Ranch may make their claims by Wednesday to get the cats. Proof of ownership would include a photo, veterinary bill or vaccination records. Update—July 21, 2009: On July 21, 2009, the Valley News Dispatch ran an article titled "Tiger Ranch rescued cats will soon be made available for adoption"). The article mistakenly reported, "An SPCA spokesperson confirmed that cat owners who can prove they own a particular cat from Tiger Ranch may make their claims by Wednesday to get the cats. Proof of ownership would include a photo, veterinary bill or vaccination records." Please note that such a deadline has not yet been established. Once the PSPCA has this information, we will post it on our website immediately. Please continue to check back for more information. – http://pspca.org/news/tiger_ranch Luciani said the PSPCA did euthanize some cats, though many that died did not survive leaving the Tiger Ranch property. "They were in such poor condition — I've heard sad stories about these cats," she said. She said the cats suffered from a litany of maladies, including sepsis and septic shock, systemic inflammatory response syndrome and bacterial infections.
