Guest guest
Placer Deer Hunt Committee <placerdeerhunt info Sat, Aug 29, 2009 2:50 pm deer hunt update Hello all, We came, we saw, we almost conquered. The commission voted 4-3 to approve the hunt recommendation. Big thanks to everyone who took the time to come and speak, including Loomis Mayor Walt Scherer. He was fabulous. Government is created by those who show up. We had facts and reason, and the pro-kill guys had nothing but a desire to kill more deer. They do tend to swim in shallow intellectual waters. Next actions: 1) Please send thank you's to the three commissioners who voted no. Haswell and Freitag were particularly articulate and thoughful. The four who voted yes were good ol' boys who would vote to kill way more than 75 if given half a chance. NO's: Rob Haswell Keri Freitag Mark Fowler Cards (first choice always) should be sent c/o Josh Huntsinger, Deputy Ag Commissioner, 11477 E Ave, Auburn CA, 95603. Faxes to 530-823-1698 Emails to jhuntsin (write 'thank you for Commissioners Haswell, Freitag, Fowler' in subject line) 2) Call and ask for a meeting with your supervisor to insist that they hear this issue and vote against the hunt. They have the cowardly option of ignoring the hunt, which DFG takes as approval. The supes must agendize and vote NO for the hunt to be stopped. They need to hear from you that your vote depends on this, and that you will tell your friends and neighbors to vote the same way. Re-election is what they care about, so use your vote as the leverage that it is. Say that you will actively campaign for their opponent if they do not agendize and vote no! Go to www.placer.ca.gov/bos/my district.aspx to see the district map and supervisor names. Call 530-889-4010 or 800-488-4308 to set up appointments. 3) As always, letters to newspapers are crucial. Say that the county F & G commission has voted 4-3 (clearly not a mandate) to allow kids to kill three times as many deer as before in suburban areas. Say that the county supes have the option to stop this, and that pressure must be applied. Remember, the southwest boundary of the kill zone is Douglas and Sierra College Blvd. This is a public safety issue. People should be outraged! Other important points are that the state covers the liability for the landowners who participate in the hunt through the SHARE program. Tax dollars are at risk here. Say that you don't want any of your neighbors to sign up for this, and that you'll be demanding to find out who does sign up. Please keep us posted on your actions. BCC us on any emails. 4) Please let us know if you can make a donation to cover the cost of the postcards. They were very effective but also very expensive. We carry on!
