Sadly, this is not the case at all in parts of the Philippines where callous dog meat traders capture and butcher dogs under the most appalling conditions. The Philippines dog meat trade is one of our major campaigns, and the facts of the matter do not make for easy reading: It is estimated that up to 500,000 dogs are butchered every year in the Philippines.Dog meat traders acquire animals by rounding up strays, buying dogs from unsuspecting owners and even stealing pets. Network has seized countless dogs with collars around their necks.Transport conditions are so bad that as many as 90 out of a load of 100 dogs can suffocate en-route to the make shift slaughterhouses. It is this last horrifying fact that makes us so determined to eradicate this brutal industry. We are making progress and have recently achieved new improved legislation, but we now need to convince the Philippines government to enforce it. International condemnation is crucial in achieving this. Please send an email to the Philippines ambassador to voice your disapproval of the dog meat trade. Every voice counts! Rest assured we will do everything we can to end this cruel industry. Not all Filipinos eat dogs. In fact, dogs are only eaten in a few northern provinces and the vast majority of Filipinos are offended by the practice. Together we will prevail, so that dogs no longer have to go through the agony of being slaughtered for a cheap meal.
