Guest guest
Animal activists seriously need to start voting as a block! We are too fractured. We need pro-animal politicians badly! In 3 days, when you go to the polls to vote, you can send a powerful message to politicians in New York City (and beyond). You can say: I care about animals... and I vote! Before the New York League of Humane Voters (NYLHV) burst onto the scene, city politicians were perfectly happy to ignore the animals' interests. They did what they wanted, voted how they wanted and never thought about animal protection as a political issue. That's changed. On May 26, when NYLHV organized the City's first forum on animal welfare issues, 14 of the 17 candidates20running for Mayor, Public Advocate, Comptroller and Manhattan District Attorney attended, along with scores of Council candidates and even the Manhattan Borough President. And guess what? They saw hundreds of people in attendance. When we first started publishing our groundbreaking Humane Scorecard for the City Council, it made the politicians unhappy. But guess what? Since we started publishing, there have been more bills introduced to protect animals than ever before and many more Council Members have signed up as supporters. And for the first time in history, a majority of NYC Council Members are supporting a ban on the use of wild animals in the circus - thanks to our work and your support. Change is sweeping the nation and it's hitting home and finally helping animals. We've done so much already but the sky is the limit if we have your support. This Tuesday, September, let's elect a new Public Advocate, Comptroller, Manhattan District Attorney and City Council who will make pr otecting animals a priority. Will you help? The animals have no voice in politics. Can they have yours this Tuesday? Pledge your vote for the animals at www.nylhv.org/pledge and get 5 friends to do the same.
