This week National Public Radio has featured animal issues on two shows. On Tuesday, September 22, The Story featured an undercover investigator who takes jobs in animal enterprise industries and documents the cruelty. He describes video he took, which Mercy for Animals (www.MercyforAnimals.org) recently broke to the media, of newborn male chicks at an egg farm being tossed live and chirping into a grinder, which is standard industry practice. And he also talked about his time working at a Class B dog dealership that sold dogs to vivisection laboratories. Many of you will be familiar with that stint from the fantastic HBO documentary "Dealing Dogs." (The DawnWatch alert to that documentary is at http://tinyurl.com/y8cvuth ). Then on Thursday, September 24, "Fresh Air" had guests John Goodwin from the Humane Society of the United States and former dogfighter Sean Moore,

talking about their work to wipe out dogfighting. The piece on The Story, titled "A Witness to Animal Abuse," is fantastic. Hearing about the investigator's work and his undercover life is fascinating. Hearing about the cruelty he witnessed and had to appear to condone in order not to blow his cover is heartbreaking. But as one listens it is also heartening to think of the huge National Public Radio audience also hearing these tales and learning what goes on behind the scenes at animal enterprise facilities. I highly recommend listening to the interview. It is on line at http://tinyurl.com/y9ofssn. And please, hit the button "send it to a friend" and send it to all of your friends. Most importantly, please send a note to The Story expressing your appreciation for the coverage. Positive feedback for coverage of animal issues encourages similar coverage in the future. The Story takes

comments at thestoryThe Fresh Air interview on dogfighting was also excellent, if not as groundbreaking. But then it was groundbreaking in a way in that it is still relatively new for hugely popular NPR shows like Fresh Air to focus on animal issues.
