Guest guest
http://bobchorush.com/blog/?p=354 Japan Solves Giant Jellyfish Problem!December 7th, 2009 You’ve probably read by now that Japan is being invaded by giant jellyfish who threaten to shut down the fisheries industry in that country. Last month, the pesky jellyfish sank a 10-ton fishing trawler. The Japanese are responding to this crisis in the same clever and environmentally friendly fashion as they do with whales and dolphins – by eating them. Media outlets in Japan have been promoting jellyfish recipe contests, while the government gears up to bolster the emerging jellyfish sector. Giant jellyfish are very large and, although insubstantial, there are a lot of them. They’re equally easy to catch or get caught by, which provides open-ended employment opportunities in hard economic times. Many Japanese eateries will likely be featuring all-you-can-eat specials until the new product catches on. Here are some of my suggestions for new jellyfish products for the Japanese: Peanut Butter and Giant Jellyfish sandwiches – For the kids and everyone else. Peanut butter tastes great with everything so this combination is a natural. Make sure to boil and salt the jellyfish to remove toxins and eliminate the slimy texture. The residual salt may seem odd to western palates but it goes far to mask the underlying scent of sewage. Jushi – raw giant jellyfish slices, served with wasabi. Recommended for those with difficulty keeping up with their recommended daily allowance (RDA) of mercury. Jellyfish tempura – The secret for this dish springs from the American state-fair cuisine technique of deep frying ice-cream. Chop sticks will be clicking in anticipation. Jellyfish jelly donuts – Japan, don’t ignore the breakfast market! A tasty fried and sugared donut jammed full of sugared giant jellyfish jelly is just waiting to become the new breakfast sensation. Giant jellyfish jelly beans and jellyfish jellies are obvious dessert treats that could be produced from the harvested pests. I wish Japan a lot of luck dealing with the jellyfish. However, if the monster jellyfish mix it up and breed with Godzilla, all bets are off. What are your suggestions for new giant jellyfish food items for the Japanese?
